The theme of this competition is beach/island, so think along the lines of the beach levels from Mario games. Beach/island themes are usually caribbean-styled, and with emphasis put on a lot of steel drum usage, etc.

I will make the deadline one month from now: 12 February.

Are we allowed to recreate/arrange themes?

Wiiboy: Remixes are fine as long as it's your own work; taking an existing MIDI and changing the instruments usually won't count.

As usual, I might enter this, especially if it can serve a purpose in the RPG I want to make. Then again, I might just procrastinate and miss the deadline, as I tend to do.

I'm definitely gonna enter this, and I'm probably gonna post my progress often. Check this out if you want, it's what I've got so far.

I don't understand why that is. I'm able to access the file just fine. This is one reason why I hate file sharing websites.

Try this maybe?
Its rreally only about 20 seconds long anyway. I just wanted to see if you guys liked the way it starts out.

Hmmm... I like it but something bugs me. I'm bad at naming instruments, but the one that plays right at the start, it kinda bugs me that you drop it right at the start and then you have a long portion where it's just gone. I think it bugs me because it has not only a heavy beach feel (dropping it somewhat drops the feel), and it sounds very... Idk what the word is... impacting? It just sounds weird in general that it's dropped I guess.

Idk, I guess the final version will have it picked up again so it's probably too early to take my comment into consideration I guess.

You're talking about the steel drums. I want to have them keep playing, but I need to come up with a suitable melody to go along with the rhythm I have going on. Right now though, I wanted to establish a good backbeat.

What do y'all use for creating such nice tones/sounds? I'm using anvil studio right now. I really don't want to be making midis all my life. : )

I personally use FL Studio most of the time and sometimes LMMS, in combination with various free soundfonts from the internet like Fluid-R3.

I used anvil studio to make my entry, but you could probably tell. FL Stdio is probably the best music program out there (also the most expensive).

FL Studio's one of the not-so-powerful programs and also the cheapest. There are lots better than it, but it's powerful for its money value.

Usually I compose my songs in Anvil Studio and apply soundfonts and VSTs in SynthFont. Probably not the best way to do it, though.

Is the competition over, or will it be extended so there's more than one entry?

If you all don't mind I would like to finish mine. All I need is tonight, and I should have it posted either tonight or tomorrow morning.
