Here is my submission:

http://www.mediafire.com/?favppq86rosiwi2

I went with a spooky sound mixed with a sort of Banjo-Kazooie sound.

Well, of my three rivals, Blaster7's has possibly the best song of them. So, unless someone else manages to post something within the next 2 hours and 42 minutes, if us creators were allowed to vote for someone other than ourselves, I know who I'm voting for.

Hmmm, I'm trying to decide who's I like more.

ah2190's is pretty good, although, idk, there seems to be some "sharp" sounding notes in it. The high instruments just seemed to clash with the desired feel imo (I'm not good at explaining things, I know).

Roo's sounds nice as well. Both calming and unnerving, an interesting combination.

Tobie's gave me the feel of talking to a great and powerful foe;

Blaster's, as he said, really has a nice BK feel to it which is a nice change of pace from what I'd expect in a comp of this theme.

Hmmmm...

I quite like all of them as well.
I thought that the melody is ah2190's was really pushing the time. It could have backed off a bit and really slowed down. I feel like that would really make it darker.
I really liked the overall feel of Roo's, but I would've liked it to have evolved more as it progressed.
I think Tobie's was one of my favourites. It was very dark and almost menacing.
I quite liked Blaster's as well. Although again, I feel like it could have slowed down at certain points both to provide contrast but also to make it more dark and mysterious.

Just about everything except the basic melody in my entry is bad. It loops badly, it's too short, it goes nowhere and it's kind of... "empty" (though I guess that kind of works with such a composition). Maybe I'll make a better version of it some day.

Anyway, if we're voting already, here's what I think.

ah2190's entry is another slight remix of a really over-remixed song (which I don't think sound that "dark" but eh). If only it had something at least a bit original going on.
Tobie's entry reminds me of a DOS shooter and I love those. It also gets the feeling of "dark" down well.
Blaster7's entry really does sound similar to the music in Banjo-Kazooie and that's a good thing but parts of it sound kind of too "cheery" in comparison to other parts of it. Overall, it's not a bad composition, though.

I guess my vote goes to Tobie.

My vote goes for Tobie. I love what Blaster made as well, but when it comes to the theme, Tobie's feels darker.

Well, I'm voting for Blaster... but it doesn't seem to have much affect, seeing as quite a few of you have voted for Tobie.

And, I can understand why I've got no votes so far. As I said, it was an experiment.

I like both Tobie's and Blaster's entries a lot, but Tobie gets my vote because I think it fits the theme better.

Isn't that the point of an experiment though, to see if it works well? I'm not saying your music doesn't work, but everyone here is voting based not only on sound, but how well the songs fit the theme. Win or lose, though, you made music and that's pretty awesome since not everyone has the patience or talent (the same can be said for any other art). I only see the winner as the proponent for the competitions anyways.

My vote goes to Blaster7, by the by. I love Banjo Kazooie and draw a lot of inspiration from (read: plagiarize) Grant Kirkhope's awesome music. The songs fits the theme well in that regard. I can see it fitting a gloomy/spooky level in a Rare game quite nicely.

Well, if voting for this is the same as voting for Music contests, then time ended for voting quite some time ago.

Tobie, your vote was outside the 24 hour window that is normally given for the Final 5, but even then, it didn't matter what you voted for.

Final Tally:

ah2190 - O
Roo - O
Tobie - IIIII
Blaster7 - II

Tobie wins with 5 Votes. Blaster7 is the runner up with 2 Votes. And myself and Roo both tie for 3rd with 0 Votes each. As such, Tobie will be hosting the next Music contest.

Guinea, I leave the rest to you. Do what you have to do with the finished contests.
