Before we start, I want to thank everyone voted for my minigame in the last competition. It makes me humble that I am able to do his one. Anyway since Sonic Mania released a couple of days ago this comp's theme is going to be on

Even though this is Mario Fan Games Galaxy, What better time to host a Sonic fangame competition than now? The rules are pretty simple.
  • The game must have something to do with the Sonic games in some way. (Characters, Settings, etc.)
  • Global rules applies.
And that is about it. You can have Mario characters, or any other characters for that matter, in your entry as long it has something to do with Sonic the Hedgehog. Entries are due September 6, 2017. NOW LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

1. what's the theme? is it sonic in general or sonic mania?
2. why did you start this right after the last one? i mean, last one had very little activity despite having a pretty good theme

1. Just Sonic in general.
2. You got me there. I wanted to make a contest that was relevant to something recent and sonic mania is the only thing I can think of and I didn't want to wait too long until it wasn't relevant anymore. I guess I need to get a hang of hosting minigame comps.

I may enter this if I can think of a decent idea.

EDIT:
The second half of this post is proving the difficult bit.

This is what I got to enter. It is just a simple racing game between Mario and Sonic. Please tell me what you think of it. https://www.mediafire.com/file/atutixl0 ... 20Race.exe
EDIT: Apparently this game won't work well with small screen sizes. (I think.) I also don't know how to fix it, so be aware of that.

There's less than a week left for this and I need to get back to work on it.

Considering this only got one entry, perhaps we should consider going back to the drawing board on the competition theme. Perhaps instead of just being a straight up Sonic fangame competition, we could make the theme "Somari in 2017" or something of that nature with a new thread launch and another two weeks to enter.

I can understand why this competition saw little interest on MFGG, the resulting games aren't even eligible to be submitted to the main site. (Meanwhile, Somari minigames might.) I also think that we need to stagger competitions better so there's not too much going on at once!

If I have a say in this, I say we let the comp run its course, hand out badges, and have someone else handle the next comp with a bit more for though. You know, the good old fastion way.

It just kinda feels cheap to win a badge for your own competition by default to me, but I don't have the final say either.

yea, in this situation there's basically no competition, so getting a badge isn't fair.

that being said a badge for this specific kind of situation would be funny.

There have been many instances of comps with only one entry still rewarding badges (happened to me, like, at least twice), but afaik this is unprecedented in that the creator of the comp is the only entrant. I think comp creators can still get 1st place badges, even if they don't get to choose the next theme, though. So going by past example, Auction Lemon still would have a badge for this, but mods would choose the next comp theme.

We've had many Music and Minigame Competitions with just a single entrant, and in all of those cases, the winner still received a badge. If you don't like this, there's nothing stopping you from making your own game and entering it! If a theme is totally outlandish ("make a 3-D game starring Alfred the Chicken with a soundtrack of originally music performed by a symphony orchestra"), the staff might put their feet down, but a Sonic competition isn't that crazy.

This summer, the Sprite and Drawing Competitions have consistently enjoyed excellent turnout, while recent Minigame Comps have attracted very little interest. If you have any suggestions for stimulating interesting in Minigame Comps, I'm all ears.

I think it's fine to win a badge, it's hardly Auction Lemon's fault if nobody entered. Even if 3 people had entered he'd still have been guaranteed a badge anyway.

I wonder since you're doing this for Sonic.

Would it be legit to call the next Minigame "MARIO MANIA"?
*As a suggestion.*
