Extended deadline: Sunday, November 6th

Woah look at this, it's the next minigame comp! Today the theme will be called Around the World: Pick a country, any country and make a small video game about it. It can be anything from a folk legend from said country or simply a Mario game that takes place in it! It can be anything you like! It could even be about more than one country if you really try hard!

The competition Deadline will be Sunday, October 30th, so a little over three weeks to get it done.

Good luck friendos!

Does it have to be mario related?

Finally, I can make "Mario Visits Canada"

I don't think so. :nope:

Good theme, but a bit vague.
Should have more limitations; otherwise people can just make any game and say "It takes place in X"

This is the idea, yes. I don't see a point in needlessly limiting people. I instead want the theme to inspire them to make a game about something they might not usually. I'm simply setting the stage for the game developers to act upon. What they want to do is in the end, up to them.

This is why I have done what I have.

I like the way you think. We need more minigame comps that "set the stage" rather than "set up obstacles" so to speak. It's far more interesting that way, imo

Key word being "needlessly" here. Of course, if all people use this as an opportunity to make something truly unique you'd be right, but what I'm getting at is loopholes that basically let people ignore the theme while still validating their entry. Just sayin'

If this is something they want to do, I am ok with this. Even if it only loosely follows the theme, as long as they make something, I am happy.

I've never entered any of these competitions, and I'm assuming that engines aren't allowed, correct?

Correct. You can feel totally free to use a tool like Clickteam Fusion, Construct, Game Maker or something else with no problem - but a featured sub-engine made with one of them, such as the Game Maker-based Hello Engine, would be a no-no.

As long as there's no rule against ancient MFGGers popping up out of the blue and entering, I might put something together or this.

Okay, I feel kinda bad now. I've been a member since 2004-2006 at the latest and have lurked in some form since 2001 or 2002-ish and I have absolutely no idea who you are. Any chance you went by a different name back in the day? Maybe my memory's just failing me miserably, I'm not entirely sure.

That was his first post out of two in six years, so it's no wonder.

The deadline is approaching pretty quickly. Only 7 more days to submit your minigame!

Post subject:  Re: Minigame Competition #3

I would suggest adding a week to the deadline if you are okay with it, because It seems like no one has submitted something so far and I would be able to join if you would add a week :P

I have something in the works! Just want to go ahead and get that out there. Development's going surprisingly smoothly too, so just a head's up
