Post subject:  Minigame Competition #3
Well every participants had a great time in the last minigame competition. Congratulations to Capt. Coconut for the runner-up entry and all of the other participants!

Since Chinese Lunar Festival is in 6th to 8th of this month, this competition's theme is:
East Asian Culture!
  • Any type of games are allowed, as long as it involves with East Asian culture and no adult contents
  • You don't have to be very strict on yourself, a game that plays with Chinese/Japanese characters will be qualified
  • You can choose either focusing only on one culture or multiple cultures that mixed into one (like Avatar: the Last Airbender)

Here are some ideas just to get you started:
  • Defeat and/or ride the Chinese dragon
  • Something to do with JiangShi (as seen in Super Mario Land. JiangShi is real in Chinese culture. They're like mix of vampires and zombies.)
  • Loose adaptation of a Japanese urban legend
  • East Asian martial arts like Kung Fu and Karate
  • Ninjas from Korea and Japan
  • Asian foods
  • Pandas
  • And more you can think of! Remember, Google is your friend for references or just simply ask me (Hypernova) since I am personally from China.


The deadline submitting your game (please upload it on a file host and post on this topic) will be September the 15th! Submit your entry by that date as long somewhere on this planet is still on the 15th of September.

Thinking of having a Mario spin on martial arts with dragon ball z inspired qualities. Mario Lee vs. Koopa Chan. :D

Aww... missed the music comp again... oh well...

Seems like a really nice theme, and making a retro styled 2D platformer will be just the break I need from working on several retro inspired 2D platformers...wait...

But switching over to seriousness for a bit, I'll probably whip something up in my spare time, maybe I'll even get a chance to show off my cool game engine I've been working on (though if I did that anyone who would want to play it would need an Ouya or android...and no, just because it's in OpenGL, supports 3D, and is actually designed to work with both 2D and 3D in the exact same project, does NOT mean I will waste my incredibly short time doing any 3D effects. Well okay, maybe if someone asks nicely...).

EDIT: Wait...according to the rules, engines are a grey area. I assume mine would be okay, as its a game engine as in GameMaker or Unity3d, and not as in Hello Engine, but I'm editing this in and waiting for admin clarification JUST in case. In the meantime, I might do some brainstorming...

@Gravity: Only full game engines like Hello Engine, DragezeeY Engine and Ultramario Engine are not allowed.
