I had to hastily finish my entry because I'll be gone next week in a place with no internet access.

You unlock new characters if you complete certain levels with the gold enemy.

Up and Down - Move Plane, Flying Sub
Left and Right - Move (Train, Car, Flying Sub), Shoot Rock (Mole)
Z - Shoot Missile (Plane, Sub), Jump (Mole, Car), Shoot Steam (Train)

The Car needs to be jumping to kill enemies.

EDIT: OH I forgot to mention X is use your melon.

I had an NSMB skypop game in the works but I got uninsipired and unmotivated and it wasn't gonna be good likely. I'll have to drop out, sorry.

So, uh, did you mean tomorrow night, in which case I have a day to finish off my levels, or tonight, in which case I either have a few hours or am past due, depending on who you ask? I kinda squandered my time toying with the engine and ideas too much rather than actually working on the level layouts, so the answer basically decides if my minigame will have one or five levels.

Damn, why didn't I see this before? Anyway, need to come up with something good within 4 days, hope I'll reach my goal.
Also, do you mean the midnight from 24th to 25th June or the midnight from 25th to 26th June?

Pyro, I haven't played the updated version, so perhaps the glitch may be somewhat responsible. However, I don't quite see the gameplay in the game. I understand that balancing five different vehicles is quite difficult (which is part of why I didn't want to enter this competition, as having multiple gameplay styles doesn't fit a small game all too well), but there doesn't seem to be any challenge at all. With the Copter, all I needed to do to win was to move up and down and spam Z. With the Train, I didn't even need to move back and forth, only spamming Z. There didn't seem to be a more effective technique. I only got as far as the second set of levels before getting bored.

The Car promised to be a more interesting gameplay style, but it doesn't seem to be very possible to win with it. The enemies are coming at you at such a rate that missing them is inevitable.

And on a different subject entirely, why are MIDIs so commonly used in these competitions? There doesn't seem to be much reluctance to use official sprites, so why not music?

MIDI question - It bloats the file size if you use MP3s, and I haven't really gotten used to using OGGs yet.

Also, yeah, pretty much all the vehicles besides the Car are broken. I was very rushed due to me leaving for a week, only to come back finding there was an extension.

I might release an update where you have to take brakes from shooting projectiles bar the Submarine for a second. That way, it makes the Sub more rewarding AND makes the game harder. Would that make it better?

Alright, I've made a real updated version. Features:

-Fixed bugs
-Copter, Train, and Mole have cooldown times. The Copter has the longest while the Mole has the shortest.
-Train has to be moving to shoot projectiles
-Bosses' HP halved
-One Lakitu removed in the Rapheal boss fight
-Added a secret easter egg (see if you can find it!)

Have fun maybe! Criticize more!

This isn't really a "NEW AND IMPROVED" version, it's just another update that makes the game more challenging. I'm leaving the other one in case some people find it too challenging.

EDIT: Also, I played WreckingGoomba's entry. It was nice - just a bit annoying that every time you died, you had to start all over again.

Thanks, and yeah, I didn't have enough time to add checkpoints. Hope it's not too hard. Also, your entry is very fun too, especially the updated version.

Yep, without the breaks, it was quite annoying. It's a good thing your fixed it.
