Post subject:  Minigame Competition #32: Defying Gaming Law

Hello all, Rystar here! Would like to congratulate Morrad1991 for participating in the last one alongside me and... well, that's it. No one else showed up, you buncha lazy punks! So, this is the first MGC I won all by myself! Let's kick it off, shall we?

The Theme Appears To Be... DEFYING GAMING LAW

What exactly does that mean, you ask? Well, completely subvert what a game would usually do, perform a 180 on a gamer's expectations, etc. etc. An example for those who are worried they may not qualify would be something like... a game that involves simply jumping on various platforms until you reach the top of a tower, except to jump each time you have to hit a 5 button combination shown on the screen rapidly which could change every couple of jumps or something, rather than, well, just hitting a jump button. It doesn't have to be complex nor as difficult as that example makes it out to be, just taking something that's so common that it might as well be "gaming law" (hence the name of the comp!) and breaking it! Do something completely out of the ordinary with it!

The rules are simple:

-While you only have to "break" one gaming law, you may do as many as you like; just let me forewarn you about ridiculous complexity if you choose to do many, which may result in the game being way more difficult than it needs to be
-Don't make the change a surprise. The theme isn't what it is to jumpscare gamers with it's wacky changes, but instead to play on their "muscle memory", so to speak: doing something conventional in a game is now a lot more complex, for example.
-Teams are indeed allowed.

You have a week, so until April 13th! Good luck everyone! :D

Would helping enemies or using enemies against themselves instead of you count?

Very interesting theme. I don't think I'll be able to enter (unless inspiration falls from the sky and hits me in the head), but I'm looking forward to seeing what people come with for this!

Well it's a good comp Ideea, but TBH I'm probably not going to do the comp, maybe make a minigame with the idea just not for the comp and withing the time constraints.

This sounds like fun. I just hope I can find some spare time to work on it.

Just want to make this question more visible. I really need to know before I start programming.

Hmm. If I come up with a good idea, maybe this'll be a fun chance to experiment with GM Studio for a change.

So.....

like, would a joke game qualify? Or SM64-like staircase?

If the joke game primarily relied on taking what a gamer already knows and, therefore, would use to their advantage, and throw it all away in favor of something completely from the left field :)

Also, the SM64-like staircase thing, if tweaked a bit from what the actual game did, could also work! ^^

Alright, that's one entry for the competition (and might I say a nice one, SN!) Do we have any others being worked on? If not, you better get to it! Only 3 days, guys! O:

If it matters, I have something started and halfway-ish done, but nothing I feel is complete enough to post.

Fun game. Though it is incredibly frustrating at times.
