heartbeat, increasing heartbeat
Well, it's been around six years, and I'm finally hosting my first minigame competition. First off, I'd like to thank UltLuigi, UEU Games, Tortwag, and Roo for entering the competitions with their games and being TOTAL FRICKING LOSERS I BEAT YOU ALL HA HA HA
err, anyway, I suppose it'd be best to start off with the rules:
Rules wrote:
1. You have a full week with 2 weekends (9 days). 2. Your entry must be posted in the topic on MFGG by the deadline. 3. Teams are allowed only if it is a team of two people, comprising of a spriter and a programmer. In that case, both receive the badge. Otherwise, you are disqualified. 4. No previously made engines, whether made by yourself or someone else, but you can use some lines of old code, based on "fair use". (For example, you may re-use a dialog box script from another game, but you can't build your game using Hello Engine) 5. Feel free to document your work, using a camera, live broadcast, audio recording, screen recording, twitter-like log etc. 6. Feel free to sleep, eat, drink as much as you need. You do not need to program the full 168 hours! 7. Games are restricted to Nintendo (related) franchises only and original games.
And now, the moment you've all been waiting for... The theme of our competition is....
THE UNDERGROUND!
That's right, folks, our theme explores the majestic, mysterious, and sometimes damp world of the underground. With a theme like this, the possibilities are endless! Your game could be a metroidvania or a shoot-em-up or a good old-fashioned platformer - the sky's the limit! Provided it takes place in an underground area, of course.
Hope you all like the theme! Mark your calendars, kiddies - or your ipods or strongbad alarm clocks or what have you - the deadline for your game is March 3rd, 2013 at 3:00 PM EST. So in closing, here's a line from Super Smash TV:

Just what is the deal with Paper Mario? I mean really! You've got these huge sprites, all this shading, it's a wonder it doesn't crash the game! Just how do they do it? Really!

Also, it's a 4-bit sprite, not 16-bit in the SNES.
