Hitting the majority of enemies was a huge point I wanted to stress here, as one could simply chillax at the bottom or top of the screen for a free ride. This was an attempt to avoid that cheap'o playing style.

And geez! The Blue Shells go BOOM! Just make sure it hits an enemy- you get a lot of 'em in the 3rd level(they're required)

because that will cause your weapon to power down 1 level, thus canceling the charge.

And there's no pattern, so it can't be a 'click-click-click- pause -click-click-click' type of thing going on there. And I understand that this game was rushed, along with the avoidance of cheap'o playing style. I'm just saying it'd be nice if it wasn't so difficult to acheive that.

Thank the Lord Glad you liked it! Buuuut, give me a second to comment on some of your nitpicks (because this game needs some criticism!).

"The lack of multiple power-ups/gameplay getting stale and boring too quickly" - I was planning on adding some more interesting enemies and crazier power-ups, but in the end I only had time to finish the Fire Flower (Ice Flowers were fully programmed, but it's glitchy as all hell). Not only that, but the game was going to star Toad, but I didn't finish working on his sprites. In short, there was a lot of stuff I couldn't add in due to time constraints (and my own procrastination).

"The mediocre music" - I couldn't find decent enough MIDIs that went together with the frantic gameplay, and those tunes (taken from pretty obscure SNES Mario titles [guess]), were the best I could make do with.

"Turnips taking way too long to respawn" - A new turnip spawns when the one you launched flies outside the screen, to prevent you from spamming them; just for the sake of challenge. But I guess it does take too long.

I'm glad you pointed this stuff out, though; these nitpicks will definitely help me improve this! Sometime in the future, I'll add more to this and submit it to the main site.
