This does look a lot more like Rosalina and I like this version of the design, though I do like the pose of your original version a lot too.

I'm just sorry about the decidedly hostile conversation that it took us to get here. Here are my final thoughts on the situation:

Kritter, you have some valid points. However, the way that you've presented them comes off as some "I'm right, you're wrong" contest and doesn't really seem as constructive a criticism as you're claiming it is. Even after Black Boo submitted a redesign that is definitely more Rosalina than Sheena in response to your criticisms, you did not give it a rest. When is enough, enough? Please consider evaluating your attitude in situations such as these and lose the chip on your shoulder, because clearly neither helps matters.

Black Boo, even with Kritter's unnecessarily hostile attitude, how you responded to his valid criticisms is not ideal and clearly has done nothing to put the fire out on the situation. Whether or not Rosalina looks more like Sheena or herself has absolutely nothing to do with your art style. As displayed above, in your style you are capable or presenting a design that is more accurate to Rosalina's model. You don't have to agree with Kritter's criticisms. You didn't even have to change your entry, as it was already accepted. However, your attitude in response to Kritter's criticisms did not help matters.

MFGG competitions are supposed to be fun and the direction this topic took definitely was not fun. If you have a concern that competition rules aren't being well and consistently enforced, please bring them up with a staff member. Don't set the thread on fire and bury other members' entries in an endless argument.

Technoflops, your entry is looking better! Keep up the good work!

I'll go color it if it will shut you up.

Give me twenty minutes or so.

P.S. Kritter: Your train of logic is dismissing a key factor of Drawing Competitions: Art Styles. But seeing as you seem so hell bent on denying my entry, I doubt me putting myself further behind schedule and ruining this piece will satisfy you either.

Spoiler:

Honestly if you had the eye covered by the hair the whole time I don't think there would have been that much of a point to contest. Characters as stylized as the Mario ones definitely are going to take on a different look if you're adapting them to another style, especially if there's a mix of one's own personal style in the pot. I do understand Kritter's point though, the original uncolored image was pretty vague.

This is sort of moot now though with the new entry.

To be fair I started with this:

Quote:
The hair is basically exactly the same as it is on standard Sheena. The crown and cards feel like an afterthought. It's Sheena with a very VERY slight Rosalina cosplay. It's supposed to be Mario Characters as JRPG Characters, not the other way around.

It's a great piece of art, but it doesn't fit the brief of this competition.

Still, I won't lose sleep over arguing my point because it was valid, and nobody else was going to say anything, but I wouldn't have felt comfortable with Black Boo's previous entry winning when it looked nothing like the character it's supposed to portray.

The new entry looks fine. It looks, you know, like Rosalina.

For what it's worth, I was fine with that post. It's later replies where I felt like the thread escalated.

Anyways, it's good to see that this is resolved in time for voting to start, when Supah-Luigi is ready of course!

Well, since we're posting our final notes on the debacle, I suppose I'll jot mine down quickly, concisely, and as politely as possible.

I admit I was volatile. College professors taught me to stand up for my decisions, and that's what I did, but clearly a line was crossed where I needed to stop, but didn't.

@Draku: You make a very valid point, and this was what caused my initial doubt. However, I then attempted to make a point to accentuate the size and length of the bangs cluster to compensate. I got too "too," with the piece and added too much motion to the hair, and that was my own mistake.

@Pedigree: I understand your intentions are good, and you make an excellent point overall how neither of us are in the right. However, saying style had nothing to do with it is...not correct. I'm not going to give a lecture on style, but I'll summarize it like this: The first entry was in the ToS style. The second entry was in Mario-esque style. Neither were MY style, but they were my method. I'll leave it at that.

Let's just put this ugly business behind us. Mistakes were made on both sides. If there's a silver lining, it provided us all with a cute Rosalina doodle.

E-Man, making accusations of bias/favoritism does not belong here and serves only to derail the thread further. Please keep those to yourself.

Why is it really that much of a bad thing for me to accuse others of being biased when I've noticed that other people (even guys who should know better) are willing to call others "biased" and nobody really bats an eye? I don't appreciate you copping that condescending tone towards me in most of the times we interacted when the worst I've done is state an opinion/ask a question.

So, I finally got this completed. Now, I can finally return to work on my other projects!

I love them all, but I feel like Auction Lemon's is the most creative entry based on the theme, so I vote:

Auction Lemon.

It's a tough choice between Technoflops and AuctionLemon, but I think I'll go with Techno.

Gonna pick Auction Lemon because of how it is a good mix of Luigi and that hippie enemy from Earthbound, but I like the rest of you guys entries as well.
