Wow! one more competition won thanks to God and the vows of you! Thank you and congratulations to SonicZetrex!

I decided to make a competition with a simple theme: Has anyone played "SMW Redrawn" yet? Have you seen how the graphics are amazing even using the same graphic conditions (graphics and palettes space) of the original game? This is the challenge: Redo from scratch the sprites of any Mario character from any game (to increase the challenge) using the same tilemap space and colors of the original game (I recommend using yy-chr for this). but to facilitate, it can be the character that you want, since it is not edited, but made from scratch, but with the same conditions mentioned before.

enjoy!

I'm not sure I understand this thoroughly. Can you (Or anyone else) please explain a to me a bit more of what this competition is about?

just redo the sprites of any character from any Mario game using the palette and the tilemap from the original game (use yy-chr!)

Redrawn uses custom palettes still displayable on the device, no? Must we use colors that were used or only ones that could have been used?

The comp ends at November 20th, 23:59.
And the rule is: use the same palette of the game.

It looks good, but the big mario should fit in a box of 16x32 px, and the mario cover is just the big mario with the sprite of the back cover, that is, it does not have the knot.

No offense, but why do you care so much about what his sprites look like? Let people do what they'd like for the competition, and if people want to vote for him because his sprites look good to them, then why should you care?

I agree that Mario has to fit in his 16x32 sprite height, but just because he adds a knot for the cape doesn't mean it's bad.

He didn't say it looks bad because of the knot, he is saying that it doesn't meet the requirements because this competition requires that the sprites fit certain graphical limitations.
That said, maybe there should be a way to make this comp more friendly to people who aren't familiar with the limitations. Maybe providing templates for the dimensions the sprites should fit in, or even just by showing some examples of what you mean for each limitation.

What would a knot for the cape have anything to do with the sprite itself? People could just make another version of Mario's sprite with the knot, and have the cape be behind his sprite to make it look like the cape is attached.

This aggression isn't needed in competition threads. Please keep your attitude in check.

  • DonnieTheGuy gets to set the rules and these rules include limitations based on how Super Mario World runs on its native hardware. If you don't like the rules, participate and maybe you'll win your chance to set your own rules.
  • "Let people do whatever they want"... then what's the point of having rules in the first place? Rules add challenge to the competition, especially for people who win often.

I think the rules need to be clearer and more specifically stated, as they are rather vague to the average person, but that's the only thing I have a problem with.

The graphical limitations in Super Mario World is why, which is the entire point of this competition.

I think the cape is a separate sprite, so having any part of it overlap Mario's sprite wouldn't work.

didn't the minus galaxy big mario fit into 32x32?

Actually, I think that was the maximum size each sprite could be. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not really a spriter but I decided I'd give it a go for fun!

She looked hideous in this game, so I tried to make her look better while still fitting in with the official SMW sprites. I think if nothing else she looks a little cuter
I plan on adding the rest of her poses as well, or at least most of them. I think it should work within the limits of the competition, but if it doesn't for some reason I can fix it :)

Also, I don't think this competition has been stickied, nor the previous one archived.

EDIT: I updated my entry. Added eyelashes to give the eyes a bit more definition, made tweaks to the hair in the bottom animation, and fixed some things up :D
