i think i'm done with this for now. for the record i used a slightly different NES palette from here which was designed to look accurate to how the colors display on a CRT.

This uses pixeltao's palette seen in Mit's entry. Worth noting that the palette here doesn't full correspond to the one above because if it did, it would be ugly so I had to choose the alternative hex values corresponded by this chart

If you guys want to vote my entry, count the one that uses pixeltao's palette.

World 1 in my entry was meant to be designed like a park (which should explain why is there a bench and lamppost in the area). If I were to design more worlds, then city, factory, and sewer areas are some of the areas that would be included. The reason why hearts are seen in the HUD is because I thought that it would use a combination of the health system from SMB2 (the one with the veggies) and the health system from SMB1 and SMB3.

As sprites are made of 8x8 bits, the bottom bits use two colors, while the higher bits use three colors (the Piranha Plant is made the same way). Each 8x8 bit can only have up to three colors plus transparency, so I don't see anything wrong with that method.

Tiles are placed in an 8x8 grid, but the 16x16 area is always the one that has a palette applied to it. Think of it like a 16x16 grid with 4 different tiles occupying the same space.

I'm pretty sure it applies to sprites, because if you see the Koopas in SMB3, there are two 8x8 areas where the palette is yellow instead of red/green.

The original post of this thread stated sprites are made up of 8x8 bits that can have up to three colors plus transparency. Also, I saw a lot of NES sprites that have one half of them use a certain color palette, while the other half uses a different color palette. If that happens to be wrong, though, then I suppose that the layering trick was used.
