A bit of time has passed since the last sprite comp, and I've been given the okay to make a new one since HansAgain was busy. First off, conrgats to HansAgain for winning the last one, and everyone who placed in the top 5.

Anyways, the theme for this comp was inspired by the new Mario Switch title.

Now, there isn't much to go off of here since we don't see much, so thats where you all come in. I want you to sprite up some custom enemies/NPCs/variants of existing characters that would fit in this local. Something like the Mariachi Guys from Paper Mario for example. Maybe a fire spitting pepper enemy or something, who knows?

Rules are simple, no editing an existing sprite, and thats about it.

You will have until December 11th to finish your entry, so have fun!

Pretty much. And again, it can either be a new character/enemy, or a twist on an existing one.

I've gotten a lot better at spriting since I joined MFGG (especially these past few weeks), so I think it's time for me to enter one of these, woo!



Question: it says "variants of existing characters," so does that mean I could do a Mexican Mario like if he had a taco powerup, or is it limited to non-playables?

Sure, as long as the base (Mario in this case) is a custom sprite.

This sounds like an interesting theme. There is a question I have, though. Are we allowed to use colors from some sprites? Because I was thinking of using some of the colors from a Game Boy Color game's palette, just that. Everything else would be custom.

EDIT: So, while I don't really know if I'm allowed to do what I said above or not, I started an entry. Here's a WIP of it:

It's a fire-breathing pepper. I thought about having it hop, and its bottom can be able to go back or forth. I made it in a non-specific Game Boy Color style, using colors I took from a Pokemon Silver sprite sheet. Any thoughts on it before I continue?

Of course you can use palettes from something else, thats not a problem, I just don't want someone to submit a ripped sprite with a minor edit on it.

Wow, that looks pretty good, SuperArthurBros! It's got some nice colors, and I like the idea behind it. Anyway, for my entry, I made a few minor changes to sprite and added a few poses for hopping and landing. Here's how it looks right now:

There are some great entries, guys! :D Keep it up! Anyway, I managed to finish my entry today. Here's a sprite sheet of it and an animated GIF:

I think I'll call the little angry pepper a "Peppro", which is a combination of pepper and "pyro", in case if you are wondering. If they saw Mario and Co., then they would try to get close to the heroes by hopping towards them. When they get close enough, they'll unleash really hot flames out of their mouth. They can be defeated in many ways, including being stomped, hit by fireballs, and being ran over by Mario and Co. when they are invincible.

Huh. That's a pretty neat design, Q-Nova. But... The Peppro can be defeated with fireballs? I can't imagine how an enemy already being hot, can be defeated with the same element... Unless it overheats because of the fireball.
