The top row is the walking animation, with the white space being the first image.
The bottom row is just misc sprites, stretching the 'shroom and showing the mushroom's back.

Wouldn't it look better if they could just hop around like in Hotel Mario?

To match with the official artwork drawn by Miyamoto himself. I think I could edit the head a little though, so I might do that. This was supposed to be the artwork in sprite form, but after uploading it, I realised that I'd have to edit some things.

The animation frames are optional.

Honestly, I am not very good at rounding off corners in sprites.

Me too, but I can count lots of other CDi games that beat it in graphics still :p
If I remember correctly, the mushroom hops to the corner of a platform. If you want the mushroom to move in animated form, unlike you see in most platformer Mario games, the best is to make it jump. The mushroom doesn't have feet so your animation looks odd. :X

It's very small and simple, the way it is drawn can make it fut any style in the SNES with a mere recolor... :P

Well, I decided to make another entry (which will my be real entry for this competition), since I felt like my Cheep-Cheep sprites weren't really good. Here's how it looks right now:

It's supposed to be on Yoshi's Island style, in case if you are wondering. The colors were taken from Baby Mario and the purple Yoshi. Also, is the deadline at the beginning of August 10, or is it at the end of August 10? Because I think I might be able to add in a character or two and/or make some tweaks to the Toad sprite if the deadline's at the end of August 10.

Well, it looks like we about 11 qualified entries for this competition! I didn't count Sayaka's entry, since it appears to be recolors and edits of the SMB3 Toad and SMW Cheep Cheep sprites, and recolors and edits aren't allowed on Sprite Competitions. The reason why I didn't count Qwerty Triple6's entry is basically the same reason why I didn't count Sayaka's entry, it's a recolor with a little edit (the hair seems different) of the SMB1 Bowser sprites. SMBXfan's entry may not appear to break any of the general Sprite Competition rules, but I didn't count it, because he didn't say what SNES Mario style it was supposed to be (which is a rule set for this competition), and I can't really tell any style that it closely resembles.

Anyway, since we have 11 entries, we'll be doing top five voting! That means you can vote for your top five favorite entries (the order doesn't matter, each one of the five you voted for will get one point), until top five voting ends. Since two days is the usual length for top five voting, I think we'll have it like that
