Since im contest host, ill settle this once and for all.

Irregardless whether Hexyuu's (and by extension, SonicZextrix's) entry is or isn't pixel art (read: I don't fully consider the art entries shown by those two contestants to be pixel art), I still think his shouldn't be counted because his entry looks to me that its less fitting within a Mario game and more or less a nondescript theme his background is. Hexyuu, if you are reading this, I suggest you rework your entry into compliance instead of further derailing this thread.

A friendly reminder that tommarow is the final day and by 12 PM, I will start the voting.

Finally you came. Can you elaborate on what I should fix so my entry may qualify?

I'm terrible at elaborations but ill tell you two reasons why your entry doesn't qualify atm. For one, make sure that you carefully consider the shape of the elements within your background and that the pixels need to be arranged to give the illusion of form, which right now its basically formless and looks like something done on paper without refinements. The second thing is that you need to consider like looking at games like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUevbch2tAQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYnl2ZyFZ6g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO_CWN0zcrw .

What they all share: Surrealistic elements (ex: Large patterned hills, clouds with faces, etc.) that you wouldn't be seeing IRL which is something I don't see in your entry.

Dark Side, should I put a link to my bg in my post aswell or is that okay with the image being shown in the post?

You can but I don't see why since your entry is compliant with the rules now.

Why is that DarkSide? Its completly pixel art, it takes a bg from the Mario universe, being the Castle and give it a new twist, a flooded castle and thaf combined with my own style, so whats wrong with it?

You misunderstand, I said that your entry is now compliant with the rules. There is nothing wrong with your entry.

Roger that. I will try to get something done today or maybe tomorrow. One thing that upsets me is that the ones that argued with me didn't say anything like what you said and were derailing the thread even more with similar statements. But I'm glad you came to tell me this. Anyway, I thought my entry would qualify because it fits an 8bit game. So, 8bit backgrounds don't qualify?

Ummm...your background isn't "8-bit" though I am not against submissions being in the style of a NES game but as long as it complies with the rule of the backgrounds being contextually fitting in a Mario setting.

This background is totally empty! Well it's obvious that it wouldn't qualify for being so simple, but just giving an example ^^

This background is somewhat similar to what I made, so...?

the NES can do much better than that

not to mention that the backgrounds "being similar" doesn't automatically make yours 8-bit

By 8-bit I assume you mean NES, right?
If you mean that, no. Its style is not fitting to any game that's on NES and the palette is not even close to NES' palette.

Excuse me. I was asking Strike. I'd rather not ask others because you have been pretty rude to me and I'm upset for that.

Then you should have sent a PM instead of posting a comment.

Is the deadline on, because I'm starting to wonder if I'm too late if I need to put a new entry?

You could have at the very least payed attention to my last post saying that the comp ends at 12 PM Eastern Standard Time today (which is June 9th) to work on improve your background instead of being confused. And speaking of that, the deadline has been reached. Since we didn't get much entries this time around, I will have to start final voting early.

Entries to be counted:
