you read that right- this time around the theme is a square.

this square, actually. but what you do with it is up to you!

RULES
  • must be 100% custom
  • must fit within the square (48x48)
(general sprite comp rules)

other than that, you're free to do whatever you'd like.

you have 2 weeks, so this comp ends on Wednesday, March 18! good luck!!

Here's my entry, which is based on one of my favorite fan games, Abducted Toad (created by Friendly Dictator).

I'm not sure if I'm skilled enough to complete this sprite, but here's a WIP. It's sort of a pseudo-voxel Mario.

Cool, that looks like something that'd fit into Advance Wars. Could work great with an Advance War fangame, even the background.

Now allow me to explain my long and frustrating backstory for this image :D . So I saw this competition and decided to give it a go. Since the rules didn't say it had to be Mario, I decided to make a Starman from Earthbound. But then I thought it was too bland so I made a battle scene. The hardest part was the words, because each one had to be 2x3. VERY FRUSTRATING. But I nailed it pretty well, I think. ;) Especially the Jeff. If you can't read it, I'll post the words below. Anyway, I originally made it Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo fighting a starman and the text says "Jeff attacks! 2 damage!" and a 2 over the Starman. Then I thought it looked dull so I added a Senior Mook to fight with the Starman. Then I though it needed something to make it stand out from the others... like a full on Gif battle. I made this image out of 49 images. That means I basically had to edit the first image 48 times adding super annoying texts. :shifty: Anyway, after the long process of making a 4-bit Earthbound Battle, I had to convert it to a GIF, which was a bit confusing at first but I totally understand now. But then I lost this thread. I spent a few solid minutes searching for this, I don't think I noticed it was at the top of Graphics and Audio. I was searching all over News and Events :blank: . But then I saw the guidelines and it said '48x48' I was like "WHAT :angry: !?" My image was 50x50 because of that stupid outline that I thought was part of the image's size :whoops: . I had to resize EVERY image back to 48x48 and made it look a lot uglier, since it was built for 50x50. Later, I was worried that if I submitted my masterpiece then everyone would steal my totally original idea :( . So nobody steal it, okay? :biggrin:

TL;DR: This was tough to make and nobody steal my idea.

EDIT: If you guys would REALLY like to see it, I'd be happy to make more 4-bit Earthbound stuff. Sorry I'm a HUGE Earthbound fan.

Seems you've been fooled by the outline too. Don't worry, I was too. Because the white part is what you're supposed to be drawing in, you're supposed to take out the black.

i'm assuming he was talking to sr. wario since he just posted his second entry, and q-nova had answered your question beforehand.

you can technically make more than one entry, but only one would be counted, so just make sure you clarify which one is your "official" entry and you should be good.

Ah, okay :agree:. I was confused when I saw LuigiM9's comment because I didn't see Sr. Wario's first post. Nevermind then.
