congrats to Darky for getting runner up in the last comp!

this time around the theme is Redoing a Scene. simply put, I supply you with a scene, and you remake the elements in an original style.

the scene you have to recreate is this screenshot from Super Mario Bros. 1-
Image

the rules are-
  • No edits.
  • You must use an original style.
  • You cannot use any of the original sprites. everything seen has to be recreated.
  • You do not have to follow the original picture's size. There are no size limitations for sprites, and you can resize the picture to 2x if needed.

the end date is Sunday, September 22nd! get spriting!

I'd like to make something but I'm but I lack the time, and I have a feeling using my sprites from MM go against the rules. Either way, if I have the time I'll whip something up.

Here I am again, this time I made a masterpiece. I enter with two different versions, the first is a simple design, well made and made very visible with a size doubled:
Spoiler:

The second is like the first, only that it is impressionistic instead of being simple:

You can still participate, even because I'm not very sure I could win, but I am happy to see your drawing.

Mario was the only item i used illustrator in. But i brought it into photoshop. But im still uncertain as to what you mean. The drawings have to be drawn pixel for pixel or how exactly. Im interested in making sprites and in "pixel" art. Just uncertain as to how you do it.

pixel by pixel. it's done in a majority of programs, namely microsoft paint.

ok so pixel for pixel on character, tiles, items, and monsters? The second illustration Platinum shows has a photo glare filter of sorts. I would think that backgrounds would be ok to use filters n such?

his filter was probably added after making everything, so you're better off spriting everything pixel for pixel first then applying filters if needed.

I don't really like the second one. That filter is very ugly and looks like a dance party or something, not really the glare of the picture or whatever you want it to look like.

Also Mario's torso is wrong. It looks like a gombob. He has no legs.
That font needs some work too. Ms and Ws looks like Hs.

Anyways here is my entry so far. I tried to make it look more "stylistic", I hope that doesn't make my entry fail terribly.

@Magster
It's funny, I use MSPaint 7 for all of my art related works. (Execpt for when I draw in Pencil.(the animation program for no ambiguity)

Darky, can I ask you something? Why can't you make question marks correctly? Why?

So far, your entry is above average at best, mainly for a stylistic approach. The Mario actually looks fairly good, but you need to seriously work on the rest of the stuff if you even want to consider getting a badge, let alone winning.
