congrats to Ult for making runner up in the last comp!
this comp's theme is Smash Bros. your assignment is the following:
  • Make at least one existing Smash character (you can use any of the smash palettes)
  • Make at least one character that has not been in any Smash game (and at least one alternate palette)
  • Have at least 2 animations for each character.

since this may be a lot to swallow for some, I'll grant an extra week so you have more than enough time to work with these sprites.

that means you have until August 12th! good luck!

Hmmm... I'll be honest, I have no qualms with the rules, but I have a feeling that the whole 2 animations for 2 characters will receive some backlash. This is mainly based on my observations of past comps where asking for multiple animations was met with lots of complaining and a lack of overall activity. I'd say 1 animation per character would be a safer bet, but thats just my call, either way I am interested in entering this comp, but only if I can find the time.

hm. I feel like if I shorten it to 1 animation, there'll be a lot of walk cycles. and since it's Smash themed, there's a wide variety of animations to choose from, so many special attacks, so many unique animations. I really want to see people get down and dirty and make some unique animtions. I gave an extra week to compensate for this, so I dunno. I might drop it down, but I'm not sure.

True enough, like I said, I'm just going based on past comps, but who knows, maybe the extra week will make all the difference.

Current WIP. Since it's Smash in general I'm going to try for Ness and his palette swaps, and then toss in a newcomer Kumatora. I'm spriting it in my own drawing style though because I'm more comfortable with it that way.

Here's Kumatora's select icon with an alternate palette/costume, entitled "Pippi Podunk". Debating whether or not to give her a "dark" skin themed after Teddy from MOTHER, called Black Blood Valentine/Bla-Bla Babe.

I suppose boss characters are allowed. if we're gonna get technical you can play as master hand, so either way you could argue that he would count as a playable character :V

Maybe just having one character to sprite with one animation would be best. The multiple animation thing isn't a bad idea but I think most members don't feel comfortable spriting multiple Super Smash Bros. characters with more than one frame.
