first off, congratulations to Evil Yoshi for making runner-up and to everyone else in the Top 5!

breaking the mold of "lol luigi comp" here by having a rather loose comp theme...

Taking Sprites and Resizing Them, While Keeping the Original Shape Intact!

if that makes zero sense, then here are some examples -

and here are the rules:

  • Resize your base sprite to 400%.
  • Make an outline of the resized sprites (similar to the outline in the Mario example), and sprite inside that. Make sure to respect the blank spaces, similar to the Samus example.
  • You have to use any sprite that is from an existing NES, GB, or GBC game.
  • You can use up to 6 colors, 3 of which being the existing colors, and 3 extra colors from the same palette. So if you do SMB Mario, you can use the 3 existing colors, then 3 other colors from the NES palette. Same applies for GB and GBC palettes.

use the following images for your palette. if your base sprite uses slightly different colors, simply recolor them to fit the palette.

in other words, you have to work with the limitations. you can't smooth out the edges. the Mario example I gave would work best for the base sprite you used.

Apologies, Mit, but I personally find this way too difficult and restricted sprite competition. Like, I get breaking from comfort zones and all but woah. I guess I'll try though. No promises that I'll submit an entry.

it's only tedious to crop the outlines, the rest is pure spriting experience as usual.

I have a NES palette available and the colours on it don't seem to match the ones you provided... Also I am using a sprite of Link from Zelda II, and Link appears to have different colours too, should I recolor him?

Here's my entry.
I just wanted to stick to the few colors Mario originally had. I thought it'd look cooler and be more challenging.

To be honest, I'm not too proud of it.
At first I was going to add a pink-ish color for a tongue in the mouth, but remembered that the Megaman sprites usually have more colors than other NES games.

I would have done Link but someone else did a better one :P
I'm not all that happy with it, but I don't hate it, either.
EDIT: Fixed some ugly edges of the dress shading.
EDIT 2: ~CaMtEnDo~ , that is amazing!
