First on, calm the f*** down. Secondly, here's how I see it:
In Mega man, they layered a "face" sprite on top of a body sprite to give the illusion of a FIVE (Not six) color palette. Here, it doesn't make sense. The colors are way too jumbled for it to fit the style. Just saying.

there's the illusion of 5 because there's 2 black colors. I sacrificed the face's black color for a pink, assuming the body's black areas could overlap the face bits.

I just counted the colors on your Luigi face in your avatar; if you're counting the black, there's actually eight on there.

I added character icons into it, somewhat like in Mit's sheet (but not as good :P). I don't know if the NES can fade out sprites (I think it can, but not 100% sure), so I made my own fade(ish) effect for it.

yeah the NES can't do actual fading due to it only being able to produce a limited set of colors.

either way, those mugshots have too many colors. if I counted correctly, there's 12. even if I miscounted, there's still well over 6.

Ture, but here are the sprites seperated as I intended. I thought since it didn't have any complex animations (other than maybe the fade) it would be easy to keep the mugshot so broken apart. I'll include this in the sheet so people understand.

I did a ghost Petey, also I included a regular one. I gave the ghost two versions, one with a black and one with a grey outline. It's not amazing, but it's okay.

I think you're going a little too crazy with part separation - it looks more like an unshaded sprite that isn't even supposed to be 8bit now.
