I read the rules; what rule am I breaking? Doesn't 8-bit SMB3 count as an official style? Either way, would the host check to see if it fits the competition rules?

They meant you are breaking the rule of 8bit, not the comp.

I thought eight bit meant 8 colors per screen, 4 colors per sprite and the transparent doesn't count (black). So Its fine, I used pink, green, yellow and white + transp. black.

Education yourself.

One day I'll write something that explains in detail why the term "8-bit rule" is stupid.

Thanks for the links but, is there any clearer way of explaining eight-bit? From what I read, it said that it can use 256 colors, if that's so then why would we have a three color rule ever? Or did I miss something in the reading?

Sigh.
If you're spriting in a Mario "8-bit" style, hence 8-bit SMB, SMB3, etc, then it's typically three colors for the sprite and one for the transparent background. It's pretty simple; don't worry about what it means, just fit your sprite to match with other things in the game's style. Can't go wrong there.

As a side note, I'm hella behind on this. Expect something of a start from me soon.

Image New, rule following version of Sluggy. Hopefully I haven't broken any other rules. Although I think there are too many yellow spots now.

It might also help if you tone down the intensity of the yellow you're using there. The one you've got there is either MS Paint default yellow or very similar to it: very saturated, very bright.

You've mentioned SMB3. If I'm not mistaken, Super Mario Bros 3 doesn't even have any intense yellows like that in its palette anyway (the NES itself may not even be able to produce such a color). I recommend looking at actual rips from the game and using them for color references: you'll find a lot of them don't look very saturated. Look at the variety of reds in the game, while you're at it.

Actually that yellow is taken directly from the game but I can see what you're saying, I'll tone it down.

... What? Considering nobody else in this topic has complained about that, I'd say it's safe to assume we're fine. No need to get worked up. Besides, if there were a problem, Chaoxys would have said something - he was browsing this topic some hours ago and didn't post.

Anyhow, here's mine. Fashionably late, that's me. (Unless we still have another day...)

Agron meant that Ridge's entry is so awesome that there is no doubt about who will win.
