Toad and the Ancient Keys by DustinvgmasterToad and the Ancient Keys is a mini-metroidvania that blends classic Mario platforming with Zelda 2 action. You play as a Toad (who is apparently nameless) in search of a sacred treasure in a temple. But, as all temples have shown us, things are not as easy as they seem. The treasure is locked up by three gates that can only be unlocked with the ancient keys, each of which is guarded by many monsters and traps. However, each trap and meanie is never unfairly placed, and the game still makes things fun for the player by having them learn new skills. It also has a wonderfully retro aesthetic and a nifty soundtrack to boot. Unfortunately, the game does have several noteworthy flaws, such as a lack of minimap, no real ultimate climax, no saving, etc. But fret not--these issues have been taken to heart. An update of the game was recently released that adds a save feature, and a sequel is currently being planned, which will also address the issues that some have noted. It's a short and sweet game that's fun to play and has potential to be much more awesome in the future than it is already.
