Blocks by JeffRulz

Image

Our second consecutive GOTM goes to another genre that's under-represented on MFGG - an RPG in June, and now a puzzle game this month. Blocks is a game about pushing blocks. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? Fortunately, things are actually a little more complicated than that in the latest Minigame Competition runner-up! In this game, you control a star that can move blocks around a series of cunningly-designed rooms. Your job is to nab all the coins sprinkled throughout each room. Certain coins can't be collected until you transform red dashed block outlines into Mushroom Kingdom currency, however. P-Switches (which turn Spin Blocks into cash) and flames (inert objects that can't be moved unless another object is touching them) are among the other items populating the playing fields. The remastered SMW graphics make for some attractive visuals, and the MIDI-based soundtrack is surprisingly good. There's a reasonably high variety and quantity of levels, and it'll keep you playing for a little while. Don't be a blockhead, Charlie Brown; go download and play Blocks.

Oh neat I won, thanks vinny!

I really had no idea if anyone liked it or not because people seem to just pass right by it (low download count, newer games getting reviewed already.) I don't blame them, it looks boring, but I tried my best to make it look a bit more animated in-game. I'm glad I found Carlytoon's collection of graphics for this.

Played it when it was released and loved it. I don't think it suited the theme of the MGC that well but it's still amazing.
