Mario vs. Luigi by KingMario

Image

We all know the truth, as much as we deny it. Behind the agents, the marketing gurus, the photographers, and the PR experts, the Mario Bros. aren't all brotherly love. Obviously the green-clad gentleman resents his older, more famous brother getting all the good parts, but there's also Mario's languishing disdain for Luigi's neurotic fear of those poor wandering spirits who take up residence in Ghost Houses.

Put simply, the Mario Bros. really want to trade knuckle sandwiches and light the other's pants on fire. And that's precisely what you do in Mario vs. Luigi! While it's easy to overlook this game, since it's made by a fairly new member, it's worth a try if you like two-player fighting games. It might not be quite as impressive as Miles' Super Battle Bros., but the adequate moveset and the nine different arenas provide good variety, and the all-original graphics are worth a laugh. The 45-MB download is a bit of a turnoff, especially considering the music doesn't stand out very much, but it's worth a go if you have a fast connection. I wouldn't mind seeing KingMario build on this game with more arenas and a story mode.

And, of course, we now know with certainty how the brothers really feel about each other!

Yeah, I was trying to get him to use .ogg files since I heard they were the best option. But he couldn't seem to find a way to insert them into Gamemaker. Now I don't really know the first thing about Gamemaker so I wasn't really able to help him there.

To play Oggs in GM Pro, use an external DLL like FMOD (complex but powerful) or Supersound (simple but fewer features).

I usually just use bass.dll, but it can be iffy sometimes.

I used to use SuperSound but it's a tad bit too limited for my major projects like Minigame Party, so I use FMOD for that, which, as VV said, isn't easy to work with.

In case anyone was wondering, I didn't forget about the October GOTM. However, with MFGGers gearing up for NCFC, there were few game submissions, and no game stood out as particularly noteworthy this month. I've been a tad busy myself lately. Fear not, as the GOTM awards will return to their normal schedule this month.
