Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Five Pendants by Kommandant DragmireFor nearly a decade, MFGGers have been awaiting the final version of this game, a work that will forever change the way you look at the sociological themes of police brutality and official corruption! The original version of this game, born way back in 2003, consisted of clashing graphics, bad MS Paint cutscenes, and cheesy dialogue. Nine years later, the final version is finally here, and it preserves the qualities worth preserving from the old version - such as the fun action RPG gameplay and the creative, zany plot - and reimagines it with cohesive graphics, fitting music, and a wider array of level environments.
SMRPG: LotFP opens with a mysterious meteorite crashing into Mario's backyard. Yet Mario can't get past the gate because of a suspicious cop named Jon Broun standing in the way, and Mario surmises that a visit from a certain member of mushroom royalty might be in order. The game continues on a wild adventure focused on Super Mario RPG-inspired gameplay (minus the turn-based battles), but there are also occasion intermissions ranging from a Super Mario Kart-infused racing section to a platforming segment. Yes, the game is difficult in places, and the 55-megabyte download is a bit large, but the top-notch gameplay and story make for a superb experience. Better still, you might stumble across a few references to MFGG's (and The Underground's) past, and perhaps even a few secret levels!
