Mario & Luigi vs. the Furbies by Supernova

Image

A quick glance at the headlines these days reveals some pretty scary stuff! Drug gangs controlling sustantial portions of a neighboring country, massive unemployment rates, brutal repression in the Middle East, and talk of crime, corruption, and even possible censorship. Yet all these trials pale in comparison to the greatest fear of all - the horror that vaguely creepy toys from the late 1990's will seize control of the universe!

Yes, Mario & Luigi vs. the Furbies is a game whose objective entails stopping Furbies from taking over the world. It's silly, all right, but don't assume those fuzzy talking critters aren't going to put up a fight! In fact, under the default difficulty level, you might find this to be one of the hardest recent games on MFGG. M&LVTF is a side-scrolling shooter, similar to Supernova's other games but more "Marioish" in style, since there are stronger platformer elements and a greater reliance on puzzles than in games like Highway Trouble. Most of the action involves blasting the assorted combinations and permutations of Furbies that attack you, although there are a few block puzzles and occasional shops operated by terrorized Toad folks. There are some other fun touches like a frenetic mine cart ride and plenty of bosses that will test the skills of even the best players. Despite some clashing remaining, the game offers some unique graphics, and the music that isn't hopelessly overused like some games you've probably seen. M&LVTF isn't your typical Mario fangame, and that's what makes it the Game of the Month.

Also, for those interested, Speculum did a Let's Play for the first level: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oixhf0InQek. Might be worth a peek.
