The MFGG staff is pleased to announce major changes in the way competitions are run on the forums. MFGGers have grown accustomed to participating in Minigame, Sprite, and Music Competitions, along with the recently-reinstated (though still only semi-official) Drawing Competitions. However, after hours of soul-searching, we came to the agreement that we'd likely see increased participation if we abolished all of the traditional competitions and began running four new contests on a regularly-scheduled basis, which shall henceforth be the featured events at MFGG: - Essay Competitions. Many members have expressed a keen interest in the issues that affect society today. This competition will require entrants to write a 10-page essay in MLA style about a predetermined topic. Voters will judge the essays on the strength of the arguments, mastery of English, and adherence to the writing prompt. The first contest will explore possible solutions to the European debt crisis.
- Athletic Competitions. This exciting new competition will pit MFGGer against MFGGer in contests such as figure skating, gymnastics, diving, and other events where performance is assessed by judges. As with Dance Competitions, videos of performances can be hosted on either YouTube or the mainsite. Our first Athletic Competitions will take the form of a basketball dunk contest.
- Dance Competitions. Participants will produce both the choreography and music for an original dance routine they will perform themselves. Videos of the performances can be posted on YouTube or hosted on the MFGG mainsite. The theme of the first Dance Competition will feature Polish folk dance.
- Baking Competitions. By far the best of these new competitions, Baking Competitions put MFGG's cooking skills to the test! Participants will bake a dish to be judged on the basis of flavor, texture, presentation, and nutritional value. To save on the high costs of transcontinental shipping, samples need only be sent to staff members. I can already taste the delicious brownies you'll be serving us for the first event!
Since we've found that short deadlines foster greater interest and participate in competitions, most subsequent competitions will allow a deadline of one week, with an allotment of two days each for top-five voting and final voting. We appreciate your ongoing support and participation as MFGG goes in this exciting new direction. The MFGG staff and community is looking forward to seeing what you folks will come up with!
