Toadette's Soup Kitchen Demo by Guinea

Image

Guinea's recent Minigame Competition entrant is a puzzle-platformer that harkens to the days when Nintendo still made fast-paced puzzle games in the mold of Yoshi's Cookie, Tetris Attack, and Wario's Woods. While this game remains in demo stage, I think you'll enjoy the unique, charming gameplay Guinea delivers. As one of the only games on MFGG to let you play as the disgustingly cute, braids-dangling, pink-clad mushroom retainer, Toadette's Soup Kitchen lets you... make soup. To accomplish that objective, you pluck vegetables - the theme of the competition - out of the ground and heave them into a nice warm cauldron of soup. However, it's not quite as simple as it might appear at first glance. For one thing, you have to toss the vegetables in the stew in the right order, or else risk spoiling the soup if you make too many mistakes. In later levels you have to keep a close eye on the temperature of the pot, or else it might boil over or get too cool, costing you points and risking an entire pot of soup. And that's not to mention the fact that sometimes you'll have to ricochet the veggies off a series of walls in order for them to land in the soup. With those complications, you might find yourself ready for an audition on some late-night Food Network reality show after playing this. The 10-level demo is already a fun play, and I'd love to see Guinea turn this into a full game with more levels, more vegetables, and original graphics.

Also, it's probably worth giving an honorable mention to DistantJ's Super Awesome Bros., an iPhone indie game with some Mario elements, and to the Luigi's Mansion 2D demo, which is one of the most impressive engines we've seen lately. Kudos to all of you.

I personally would have chosen DistantJ's Super AWESOME Land. But congrats to Guinea indeed!

Yes, Super AWESOME Land is definitely great! I bought the game and played it for hours on my 4S. I want to record but I don't know how to do that. (No jailbreaking plz, crowbar'd Image)

Congrats to Guinea! Image

Hey did you make that badge yourself? Could it be that it's a "Game of the Month" badge? If so would you be interested to let us use it and award it to everyone who ever won Game of the Month? :D

Also yey! I won GotM ^-^
Thanks! Let's hope the full version won't disappoint.

It's already a PNG btw, I don't know why tinypic always show jpg as extension but the file stays the property itself. When saving, just change this: image.jpg ==> image.png

BTW, here are list of the GOTM badges I did:
ImageImageImageImageImage

And something some MFGGers like this:
Crowbar badge: Image

It's up. I gave you and me a badge for starters, now I just need a complete list of winners.
Thanks.

EDIT: and done :)

I just wonder what we can do with the crowbar badge :P

The crowbar badge could be for the game the makes the most progress throughout its designing.

whaaaaat

Don't all games make progress throughout their designing? Do you mean the game with the longest development time or what?

I was thinking if you really add it as a badge, it should go to the people who made crowbar games during the crowbar fad. (Nite_Shadow, Roo, DJ Yoshiman, Miles, and Genogenesis7?)

But an impossible-to-get badge like that might be a bad idea so I guess I'm joking.

Sounds a great idea to me. I'm into crowbars too recently and made this, so count me in too.

I mean games that improve greatly in between demos or releases relative to time in the year.
Edit: But if this isn't of importance then just ignore it.

hmm,

Heres an idea for the crowbar badge,
Given to people who are able to show the fun side of a common annoyance,
Be it with randomness, jokes, or other means, as long as it does not attack another person, and the people actually find the humor in it.

The crowbar fad is just one example of a situation like that.

It's a neat game, congrats Guinea.

EDIT- I don't get a badge for when MM was GotM? Okay...

thats fine...
no problem...
not at all...

Seriously though, I'm guessing it's based only on programming, hence why I wouldn't qualify. If so thats fine.
