Note: This is the first time anyone's typed a Game of the Month Award since The Split. I'm open to feedback regarding future changes regarding the format of these, but this is a game that's so unique I can't let this one go unnoticed.

Every once in a while, you see a game on MFGG that you makes you think, "That was neat." This is one of those games. Super Mario Pix is only one level long, but what was conceived as a simple graphical experiment has grown into a profoundly clever and charming game. The graphical style pays tribute to arcade classics of yesteryear but also delves into the world of 3-D, something that few games - especially Mario fangames - do. The game also makes good use of sound effects and a simple but effective nostalgic remix of the Delfino Plaza theme, which fits the mood of the game perfectly. The game isn't glitch-free, but the gameplay is of a very high quality. Above all, Super Mario Pix is proof that fangames don't have to be long-winded epics to be fresh, original, and most importantly, fun to play.

Also, honorable mention to Ultramario's Newer Mariodoom.

Indeed, the game is quite a gem and it stands out. It might not have the most original gameplay, but the art style and presentation alone is incredibly well done and it can be seen that the creator enjoyed making this.

Also stickied this, in the hope that Game Of The Month turns into a regular event from now on, like we always intended to have it.

That game is really neat, isn't it? The only problem I have with it is that Goomba bug, where you sometimes die by jumping on them.

Also might be a good idea to set aside a subforum for these threads in the archives. But yeah, it's always refreshing to see games here utilizing a style other than the expected 16-bit. And it plays nicely, too.~

Or we could move them into the News forum. Anyway, I hope to continue doing this in future months, because it's always nice for quality games to get some positive attention!
