Super Mario Pearls of Wisdom
by Firestyle

Firestyle isn't the biggest name on MFGG, but he's quietly put out another elite-tier game, building on his critically-acclaimed Super Mario and the Sacred Bells of last year. Tatanga and his army of evil extraterrestrial bats have attacked the Mushroom Kingdom, and only Mario can save the day. But Mario and crew aren't the only ones up in arms about all this - Bowser is none too pleased himself, so you've got two big baddies to deal with!

Pearls of Wisdom is a big game. It's eight worlds in size, and none of them are exactly short. You'll find the levels become pretty tough relatively early on, so if you're looking for a fangame you can beat in five minutes, look elsewhere. There's also an enormous array of power-ups - perhaps the largest of any Mario fangame to date - and the decent variety of minigames adds to the fun. You'll find some interesting level environments and unique enemies as well.

Even though the game takes a long time to load, and some players might find a few of the later levels frustrating, the pure size and variety of this game's makes this pearl a deserving recipient of the Game of the Month award.

I've played this a few times

And I swear A LITTLE MORE POLISH would make this game 200% better
Also friction

Personally I thought it was a really good game, but I agree it didn't feel quite as polished and perfect as Sacred Bells.

Well, since this "game on the month" topic is stickied and there hasn't been one for the month of March, I'd figured I'd ask this here. Do you plan on doing any more "game of the month" topics? And does this really need to be sticky for more than a month after February?

I hope there's a GotM for March. And unstickied.

Oh, sorry Guinea. The game that would've been March Game of the Month (Mario & Luigi and the Hunt for King Boo) gave me such major control problems I couldn't play it. I'll definitely be doing an April GOTM, though, and you can still type one for Hunt for King Boo if you can play that game.

I was just wondering, would Midas Machine Chapter 1 even be a possible GotM game or no? I'm just not sure since it comes out in peices and not at once.

I'd instantly disqualify games that request for themselves if it was my choice. :)

I'm not requesting it, I'm just curious what the guidelines for being GotM are (there may have been a topic on it but I didn't see it).

Wondering if it has the option of being picked and asking for it to be picked are two completely different things.

Granted, I could have worded my first post better, but I figured I should use the games title directly so as to avoid it sounding like I was trying to be sneaky or something.

EDIT- I responded to this when I was in a rather bad mood, so I'd like to say that I'm sorry if I came off sounding like an ass, but it was not my intention to request MM to be picked, I was merely asking out of curiosity.

The guidelines for picking the Game of the Month have never been clearly spelled out, although generally it's required that winners to have been released in the past month or two, and demos aren't usually eligible.

I don't know where else to ask this... certain Game Maker games sound REALLY choppy on my machine. Midas Machine sounded fine.

It includes this game. Is there some sort of audio driver that prevents this? I think it's because it's using a sound format other than MIDI, WAV or MP3.

It's more of a crackling problem. I've been Googling it. The games (including this one) run at normal speed.

Oh, and when the game is closing (after hitting escape) I hear the sound normal for like three seconds.

Don't you have a computer that can't even handle GM's code boxes? I can't imagine many games running that well for you in the first place. I get sound problems like that when my laptop is on save-battery-ultra-low-performance mode, but only on games that really really really push it with the sound.
