I'm going to go and say the newest. All the games have a similar art style. The art style is just improved upon with each Game.

I wouldn't say the art style improves in each game. Dream Team was graphicaly great for the 3DS but Paper Jam felt somewhat bland and generic in comparison. Mario & Luigi SS+BM seems neat though and the backgrounds are in 2D like in the first three games.

I didn't Even know of superstar saga and bowsers minions till now, it'll be good to revisit a game I never beat.

To stay on topic seems like yours right. Dream Team captured a dreamy aesthetic, I guess each game captures a different feeling.

In terms of uniqueness, liveliness and overall cartooniness, Superstar Saga wins, but it's also a game that's visually rough around the edges with some ****ing WEIRD character design choices.

Dream Team's style is best in terms of "impressiveness" and fluidity, but it sacrifices identity and starts falling a bit into the homogenous "Mario Style".

Bowser's Inside Story's style does the best imo in balancing the two, being super fluid but still maintaining visual identity. Personally, it's my favorite.

i've slowly been finding myself more and more into superstar saga's art style, i like how illustrated and expressive it can get compared to future games. it's also my favorite gameplay-wise, but that's not what the thread is about.

i like dream team's style as well, but paper jam and now the superstar saga remake have basically reused a lot of character assets, and i'm starting to get sick of seeing it. it's a shame because a lot of effort went into them and now they're just getting run into the ground.

in my opinion, my favourites in order are:
1. BIS
2.PIT
3.DT/PJ/SS+BM
4.SS
despite how complicated its game is, i always loved BIS style.

I'm not a huge fan of the 3D art style used in the 3DS games, I largely prefer the DS games' 2D "painting" style.

Bowser's Inside Story is the best visually, a perfection of the style created in the first game

I don't understand why they got rid of the outlines in later games

I really like Dream Team's style, and I don't really have an issue with them reusing it twice. The fact that so much effort went into Dream Team's assets is the very reason why they're being reused. If they're going for a similar look overall, why reinvent the wheel, you know?

i agree here, but dream team is being REALLY OVERUSED. twice is fine, but three times is too much.

Dream Team's art style looks extremely good in 3D-the lack of a 3D mode in the SSS remake is troubling.

If one were to not include character designs, I would say that Dream Team's art style is slightly better than SSS's. It's very pretty to look at. Very smooth.

On the other hand, if one were to include character designs and animations...

I'm quite fond of Banjo-Kazooie, but the superior of the two here is fairly clear.

Not particularly sure why people are fond of BIS's-that game had the best writing and fairly good battle mechanics, but I don't personally see what the art style has over SSS's. Thicker outlines?
