I reduced the Ancient Japanese color palette from Wikipedia (compiled into one image by GloriaGrimoire) to 16 colors. Although the colors DO lose their nuance from that era (where specific colors would denote certain things), I think it works well as a general game palette. Amiga homebrew games that have 16 colors can have double the resolution of 32 colors. You can see an example of an Amiga/DOS game that uses 16 colors in
Fury of the Furries.

This is a version of the above palette, but it has one less color, resulting in 15 colors. Now the darkest green color is gone. If you want to use a good substitute for that darkest green color, you can use brown. Since the other 14 colors have been adjusted to compensate, the brown color now looks almost seamless as a dark green color. This palette can be used in Genesis and SNES homebrew games and hacks. These systems have 4 and 16 15-color palettes for sprites, but you can now use this 15-color palette to replace all of them.
