Hello, I'm Donny and this is my sprites topic. I'm here to show a small Mario Sprite I did in the SMB3 style. But I am in doubt about which to use: the one of the top (big nose and smaller chin) or the one of lower one (smaller nose and bigger chin). Which do you prefer? Then I'll edit Mario's legs and post all the changes I've made to Mario.

Sorry for the bad English, I am Brazilian.

Wow, these aren't bad at all! A bit overly detail-heavy, but I can dig it.

I think the lower one is better.

Personally, I like the bottom one

Yeah, I think the bottom ones look better (although the top ones look very good) too. Your Mario sprites overall look pretty good, though! I'd like to see you expand on it. :)

Here is an SMB fluid Mario running animation:

Aaaand...

I decided to use the bottom one. Soon we will have more moves.

It looks pretty fluid, although it seems rather slow. I think if you were to speed it up a bit, it will be perfect!

This is a bit unrelated, but I'm reminded of that "haters gonna hate" meme when I saw that walk cycle.

The gif is fast , but in browser it's slow.
EDIT: The animation is fast, very fast, too fast, so much so that even the computer did not keep up with speed. Here is the corrected version:

BAM! More stuff related to smb:
Spoiler:

The 1st version is based on the limits of the original smb and my custom Mario sprites. The 2nd version is an improved style, based on the drawing of the original Mario and the classes that Mit gives each Sprite that does.
And this is the face of a project of mine: three pixel arts of each smb mario power.

EDIT:Do you see the black silhouette around Mario's face? That's the shape of the original face, so the pointed nose. And the hat of the small Mario ... Can not fix it, because as I said, it is based on the limits of the original (16x16).

Wow, that looks really nice! I love that style. As for the Mario face, it looks really nice, though the nose looks off. I think the problem is that ring around the base of it (his nostril?), and the nose in general seems a bit too pointy, where Mario has a very round and friendly nose :)

I'm really digging the high-def Mario at the bottom. As for the top picture with the many Marios, I like it. The only thing that looks off to me is the hat for small SMB SNES Mario.

Small Mario's hat looks squished!

Post subject:  Re: Lovintendo's Sprite Temple

Those Mario sprites look very good! I like how you made multiple versions of them. For negatives, though, I think you should try to work on hat of the top small "Marios". It kind of looks squished. I'm also not sure about that shine on the belly. It just seems weird on all except for the 16-bit ones and those without shading.

The hi-res Mario head looks neat. I love the colors, although I'm pretty much with what Evil Yoshi Toes said about the nose.

The animation looks better, now that it's faster. :)

Tip number 1: read my last post.
Tip number 2: do not forget the black silhouette!
Tip Number 3: Compare my sprites with the originals.
Here are some more SMB HiRes sprites. The pose that I'm going to use for pixel art is that of hop, but I need to make the shading.

I see you are keeping it all inside the original sprites' pixels limits. I think this will not work as you think, given his right arm the jumping pose is oddly bent (His elbow is too smooth).

Post subject:  Re: Lovintendo's Sprite Temple

i think for mega mario you should try for a more naturalistic pose, rather than a 1:1 copy. mega mario is supposed to look strong and weighty, so just giving him the same pose as regular super mario robs him of that.

Image Image

try to think of how mega mario acts and controls in-game when making his animations, they shouldn't just be direct copies of what super mario has due to his vastly different weight and physics.
