Really? I didn't use it for long but iirc it has anti-aliasing that can't be turned off which is a pretty major issue when it comes to pixel art.

The only tool with AA are the paintbrushes, so you just use pencil.

I usually use paint, but sometimes I apply extra effects with Adobe Fireworks.

I should definitely try GIMP 2... Anti ailiasing automatically. That sounds pretty sweet.

I can't find that version anymore, but that was the best version I used.

MS Paint on Windows 10, the same as Windows 7 combined with the GM sprite editor.

I use MS paint to draw the sprites and then use Paint.NET for editing. It's a really good combo.

Why not solely use Paint.NET? Can't it do everything MS Paint is capable of?

I think it's a transitional thing, if any. For a lot of pixel artists, they start out with MS Paint and use other programs for transparency. Gradually, they switch over to the new program as they befome more comfotable with it.

Happened to me with MS Paint and ASEprite and I don't ever plan on going back. :P

As a person who is fairly incompetent with graphical art and primarily creates sprites for use in Game Maker, I am one of the surprisingly many that use Game Maker for all spriting purposes. I appreciate that Game Maker has the option to resize without blending, which is quite handy for retaining silhouettes and general shading (though a bit of polishing must be done to get the outlines together and remove some jaggies). The straightforward "replace color X with color Y" tool is quite useful for quick recolors, too.

Game Maker lacks quite a few of the properties that proper spriting programs should have (layers, the ability to flip portions of an image, quick access to particular palettes) but it gets the job done.

WOAH! Platino! Fancy meeting you here. (If you remember me from DVA)

You're right, I'm actually using Paint.NET more as I just realized there's a way to do transparent selections. Which is actually the only real reason why I use MS Paint. You just need to have another transparent layer.

MS Paint is loved by most because of its non-instrusive interface and simplicity. If only it had layers and if you could zoom in more.

I use the latest version of ASEprite. I used to love GIMP but the animation support is truly nonexistent if you need to also work with layers... ASEprite takes care of layers while supporting frames. It also makes previewing, exporting as a sheet and exporting as a single image really easy. The only thing is you need to get used to looking at the interface simply because it's designed with pixel artists in mind. Someone I introduced it to said it reminded them of Mario Paint, but they do still use it.

Here's an example of the UI.
