So, since I didn't get any additional feedback on my torso, I decided to fill it in. How is it?

If you could make his left most hand slightly tilted to be more visible, that could probably solve the whole "obscured arm" issue some people have. Other than that, I really can't see anything wrong so far, nice!

I agree with Vitamin.
Also, maybe it's just me, but the outline on the bottom of the body might be a little too thick. Maybe it will look better once the feet are on, though.

Well, I looked into those two things a bit and even worked on a problem I noticed myself.

Image

I forgot to change the outline color on the red shirt, but I took care of that.

So, with the feet on, it looks like the torso outline needs the adjustment. Either that or I thicken the shoe outlines. Your thoughts?

I went ahead and played around with the torso outline anyway.

Anything else that could be done?

i think his body is still a bit too big. not in terms of shape, but actual size. his proportions are kinda like regular mario just without a neck and legs.

EDIT:
Image

as another addition:

Image

try to flip around your image every so often to make sure it looks right. when mario's flipped it makes it a fair deal more obvious that his head doesn't quite sit right on his shoulders.

I played around with it a bit and this is what I got. Once the shape is good to go, I'll reapply the textures (especially since they are the proper colors compared to these placeholders).

Image

By the way, I do actually flip the image from time time time. That way, I can check if there is any unnatural leaning (something that my previous Luigi sheet has a bit of).

From what I can see, however, I think that the contour of the back could use a bit of adjusting, so that it doesn't stick out as much and line up nicely with the back of the head. Then again, I could just be me.

As of now, the only thing I think I can work on are the arms. Once i find out those are good, I'll apply the texture (not to mention better colors).

Image

Also, much like my previous Paper Mario, the limbs obscured by the body will have a darker color. How am I doing so far?

I think it looks great! Though for some reason his arms being up so high makes him look a little stiff to me, likes his shoulders are tense or something. Maybe bringing them down to look more relaxed would help.

Yeah, loosening up the arms a bit could help give Mario a more natural pose. As it is now, he does seem to have a stiffness to his upper body that probably shouldn't be there.

You did a great job on the hands. I can't explainwhy other than I liked the cyan outlines and how it is drawwn...

Well, I guess that outline I've chosen for the hands was a happy accident then since I wasn't thinking it'll be my final choice!

Image

I shifted the arms a bit to make them less tense, so how did I do? Also, you think I should adjust the outline for the overall strap that is near the overlapping arm? That way, you could see more of the shirt better.

i think where the more visible arm is fine as it is, but the arm behind him could stand to be positioned a bit lower down and a bit farther out. right now it looks shorter than the foreground arm

Sounds reasonable, Mit. I also decided to lengthen the arm as a result.

Image

So, unless there's something else, I'd say that my base Mario is ready! In other words, I'll be able to work on more than one character because I'll have a good size reference for them.

In that case, I'll get to work on the character bases and any additional parts for Mario.

Image

I'll probably update this post with more progress if I don't end up creating a new post first.

And here is the Koopa! ...... Or, in this case, the Koopa shell. Considering how it's a bit more complex than the Goomba, a smart idea is to take the Koopa on at one piece at a time.

Image

Also, I was intending to reuse the shell's underside for all the shell positions (especially since the main shell and underside will be on different layers anyway), but I'm not against the idea of making a new underside for each one. Your thoughts on these new sketches and more?

Mario's arms look much better now! It's nice to see him all put together, he looks great! And that goomba looks adorable!
I don't see any problems with the koopa so far, either. I'm excited to see more!

I'm very glad that you appreciate my work, Evil Yoshi Toes! Anyway, here's more more progress for you guys to look over. I would have posted this sooner, but the original version was lost due to FIreworks crashing unexpectedly.

Image

Trying to do the back angle of the head was very tricky for me, but I gave it my best shot. Any feedback to make it look better than this is appreciated.

As for the hat, I played around with the emblem a bit. Even though the art direction is supposed to look haphazard, I feel like that's not an excuse to make certain parts look nice (especially when I flip them). Despite that, I can't make them look too nice or else it'll look unnaturally perfect for this style. With that said, is this new hat good, or should I stick with the original?
