as we all know, the CFP is pretty much dead, so why not work on something smaller? that's how i came up with the community extension project.
my idea for a community extension project would be:
*drum roll*

capture ability in gamemaker studio 1.4

since odyssey revealed the capture ability, mario fans have wanted to put it in their fangames. so why don't we make it? it's not a fangame, but it's an extension for people to use in fangames.

so? what do you think?

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting we program a GM Extension package for this feature?

Not to be a downer but...If you wanted the capture ability in your fangame, it means you'd have to make in-game entities controllable by the player. Behavior like this is very strongly linked to your game logic and how you design your engine from the get-go. It would not be possible to make a one-size-fits-all solution that makes all the enemies in all fangames suddenly capturable. You would need a tailor-made solution for each individual game and the unique enemies found in it.

This would be kind of difficult to do with a community as many may or may not have GM1.4 due to it's expensive price, not counting pirates.

GM extensions aren't usually used to implement specific game mechanics. They're more likely to be used to interact with specific file systems or computer hardware that GM doesn't support natively - for example, the ability to use audio files that GM can't normally play. A well-programmed, well-documented tutorial demonstrating how to make a capture system in GM could be useful, though.

YoshiEgos: GM Studio 1.4 is *probably* still the most popular version on MFGG, but a number of people still use GM 8.0 or 8.1, and some have moved on to GM Studio 2.

The CFP 2017 was done in Game Maker: Studio 1.4 because most programmers on MFGG still use it. I've seen a lot of MFGGers switch to Studio 2, but it's not the predominant tool yet. Regardless, Studio 2 is compatible with many Studio 1 extensions, so that shouldn't be an issue.
