I just picked up a copy of Game Design Workshop from the library the other day. I have yet to read it. I've gone and looked through the the reviews and they've been positive so I hope it is a good read. Anyway, I was wondering. Do any of you fine folks read books like this? I realized my game was lacking and so decided it's time I do heavy research rather than just websites.

I have read a couple books that are known as The Game Maker's Apprentice and The Game Maker's Companion. Even though they're mostly about learning how to use Game Maker and make games with it, they have some sections that discuss game design. The former has sections about what makes a good game, level design, and balancing in multiplayer games, while the latter has sections on game design, story telling, and art design. I've been able to learn some stuff from them, and I find them rather useful and entertaining. I would recommend taking a look at those two books if you're interested in researching game design. :)
