Or more precisely, one where creators can request work to be done for their games, and get offers from those capable of doing said work?

Because as a possible sideventure, I've been considering making such a website. That's cause at the moment, it seems all game development marketplaces (and most marketplaces as a general) are 'resource' based, with people selling pre made assets rather than custom services. This makes it kind of annoying when you're stuck with something in your game and need help to do it, since you're stuck asking on forums and social media rather than a simple service.

All projects would be welcome too.

But I'm not sure whether any actual game developers would be interested in the idea. So what do you think? Is this something you'd be interested in?

Avoid the term "marketplace" on a site that is intended to house resources for fangames and ROM hacks, it may send the wrong signal.

Speaking as a developer, I'm much more prone to looking through personal networks for friends of friends looking for work. There are a lot of talented people on and around MFGG's community so I don't find crawling around forums and twitter a bit to be too much of a hassle.

Good point. That said, the site itself wouldn't be a place for people to download resources, as much as one for people to have them made for their projects. More like say, Freelancer.com than MFGG or GameJolt/Itch/whatever.

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, you raise a good point there. If you've got a good personal network and are fine using internet forums to find help, you're probably not going to use this site if it opens.

If that's the norm in game development communities, I'll probably need to reconsider this idea.

I don't know exactly how common it is but I've noticed a LOT of artists follow each other on Twitter and I often meet a lot of people who turn out to be friends of other people I know. Small world. Art-types seem to stick together it seems.

Reconsider the idea. Another thing to keep in mind is that the fun of programming is figuring stuff out for yourself

It's an intriguing idea for sure, but I gotta agree with Syaxamaphone.

I like this idea. Not everyone can be active in these communities so it would be a good alternative in my eyes. Plus, there are so many gamedev-related communities out there that it's impossible to ask around in all of them; having one place specifically for this goal could make things a lot easier and more organized.
