Does anyone here know any more examples?

Because at the moment, I'm writing an article with examples of fan game developers who moved onto indie games at some point or another. I've currently got GalaxyTrail games (Freedom Planet devs), the Sonic Mania development team, Eyes in Everything (Psycutlery), Fusion Gameworks and Jonas Kaerlev (a Hat in Time).

However, I'm struggling to find examples from other scenes, and I'm also sure I've missed a few big names too.

So yeah, any suggestions? Do you know any development teams or individuals who went from making fan games/mods/hacks to making original works?

Syaxamaphone (Suits and Sandals) would be a good example, though you may have already considered him/interviewed him.

EDIT: hmm that's assuming that he's made fangames before, I'm not sure

Cliax Codec is a combination of top-down and third-person shooter. The gameplay will blend platforming, puzzle and shmup elements together to create a unique gameplay experience. You will take control of four playable characters which rise against a team that seemingly wants to take over the world - but are their motives really that cliché, or are there deeper motives behind their actions?

If it counts, Mairo Maker and Zelda Maker's developers both turned their fangames into indie games.

Good catch. Will probably include the Zelda Maker one (since I like to include a variety of fandoms here).

I was actually thinking of including you on the list already, amusingly enough.

Oh wow, certainly got a lot of examples here. Yeah, guess I should probably get on with the article soon.

ReDigit's probably the most obvious one by now. (Think SMBX & Terraria)

Well, I used to make fangames, some of them are still here, mostly Mario. While I'm not exactly your guy because I'm not an indie right now, I do work in game development as a programmer and have one of my projects being made within that company.

Toby Fox: Well-known for UNDERTALE, but got his start with Starmen.net and the Earthbound Halloween Hack.
Dan Fornace: Became famous for Super Smash Land before making Rivals of Aether.
Omar Cornut: Working on an incredible remake of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap. This got greenlit by SEGA.
???: Can't find his name, but I believe the creator of Blaster Master Zero was a passionate fan of the series?

You actually need to release an indie game though.

FreakZone Games, the one-man company which made AVGN Adventures used to be a part of this community before I believe. Also, Freedom Planet used to be a fangame.

also I'd like to finish a game someday, cough cough

Checks out!

EDIT: further proof

EDIT 2: Wow, turns out that FreakZone was a website, and was the first website to take fangaming seriously rather than just making joke games

Yeah I still have a couple of FreakZone games, including Mario & Sonic Return from August 2000! It was a janky fighting game with Sonic and Mario characters, and it wasn't protected so I was able to open it up in the Games Factory and used it to learn how to make my own games back in the day.

Yes and the only one as well. It was OK but Coco can do a lot better.
