Most of us dabble in fangames here, and many of us have actually released one or two in our time, but I'd wager that there are a lot of fangame ideas that never see the light of day either due to not knowing enough about game development or the tools you're using to build them, or simply not having enough time (that's my personal issue right there).

Luigi Quest
Before most of you even knew MFGG existed, I was making a Luigi fangame called Luigi Quest. The story was something like:

"A Dark Star has crashed into the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario has gone missing. A mysterious shadowy figure with a mustache is lurking about and everyone thinks Bowser is behind Mario's disappearance! Enter Luigi, who is on a quest to find his missing brother and save the day."

Basically the Dark Star posesses Mario and he's the final boss. Zones included the usual grass land, desert, water and so on. 3 levels and a castle in each zone, with each second stage of each world including some interesting gimmick. Sadly I never ended up finishing it, but I had a lot of good ideas that I would have loved to have seen finished. These days, Luigi fangames are a dime a dozen I'm sure, but back then there wasn't a lot of love for Luigi and good ole Luigi Quest is still an idea that I would have loved to make.

Mario Land: Minigame Mayhem 2
This is a game I would love to make, a sequel to my 10-year effort. Finishing my last game was bittersweet, it was old and crusty and there was a lot I didn't like about it, but too much was done to leave it unfinished so I worked hard to get it in a state I could call "done". Still, there's so much more I could've done, and a sequel would help me realise those ideas.

I've actually ripped a great plethora of graphics from Bowser's Inside Story to make a sequel, mainly because I found that almost all backgrounds hadn't been ripped yet, especially the parts that have animation, so I did it myself, ready to use in a sequel. I have a huge list of minigame ideas to include, a storyline that's actually pretty cool and I have a good engine for the overworld and for platform sections...

...but just don't have the time. My Son is a 6:00am to 7:00pm job, and by the time I'm done with that, I simply have no desire to work on anything else.

Super Kritter Land
Or something to that effect. I always wanted to make a Marioesque fangame starring my character, I had a story all worked up and the gameplay would be part Mario, part Megaman and all awesome. Levels would be all twisted looking versions of Mario levels, as the game takes place in "The Void" where Kritter makes his home. Defeating each boss gives Kritter back a unique ability that has been stolen from him. But it's one of those ideas that'll likely just sit in the back of my mind forever I'm sure.

---

Go on then, share some of your ideas for a fangame you'd love to make.

Great topic idea!

When I got into fangaming, I had a very clear vision: A series of Zelda re-imaginings (four, to be exact) that would sort of "correct" the timeline. I believe that the four games were based on (in order) LoZ/Ocarina of Time hybrid, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Zelda 2. They would all feature the same Link, they would all be side scrollers like Zelda 2, and they would all be huge epic adventures. I had the dungeon, map, items, and etc designs worked out for at least one game. But this was nearly 10 years ago. I knew almost nothing about programming.

Finally, a topic to disperse all my undone and or terminally unfinished ideas onto the world. In no particular order:

Mario + Wario: COMPLETE!
Ouch, this one hurts to type a little, and I'm sure for the handful of you out there who were following the development of this back in late 2012 / early '13, it hurts to see. I always intended to expand upon this fangame from the very beginning, and even had some ideas already fleshed out months before I even started work on it in November-ish (or it might've been October-ish, I really forgot). The reason I dropped this is for it to match my current standards of programming and polish and what-not, I'd pretty much have to start from scratch and... at one point or another, it just stopped being viable to. All that exists now is the first world I did up rather crudely many years ago that most people have probably never played. Sometimes I think about actually going full throttle and starting over - making it anyways, you know? But I know it wouldn't be feasible, especially considering I have a reputation for doing a lot of teasing and never delivering... well, the majority of the time. Desire wanes for me, and I should really look into controlling that better.

F-Zero: Reverb (or something to that effect)
This one I dropped because programming AI is too difficult. I would genuinely really love to make an F-Zero fangame, though! Even though the Mode 7 part of it was absolute hell to do, I had something nice set up and I figure it could be the bee's knees to finally deal out a competent racer into the world of fangames that isn't Yet Another Mario Kart Game. I highly doubt I'll ever come back to this and/or make something similar to it in spirit - so I suppose it's forever stuck in idea alpha whatever limbo.

Now onto some ideas I never really got too far with, considering the above two I think I actually had threads for and other pre-release things:

Progressive Rockman
It's Mega Man... but with prog rock robot masters! And other stupid things. I love prog rock, probably a little too much, and this was going to be a sort of take on all those 8-bit Mega Man games that started popping up about half a decade ago that tended to be rather... mediocre. I also considered doing one except replace prog rock with "The Brady Bunch" because of a stupid ytmnd from many MANY years ago. That one was fairly stupidly fleshed out for a silly idea. Goes to show you how far I think up things sometimes.

Metroid: Other Other M
Dumb joke game, what more can you say? It was going to be about Samus giving birth to a Metroid that looks just like her, and then it turns out it's actually a Mochtroid, and then it all basically turns into an incredibly weird parody of a parent struggling to accept their gay child. I scrapped this idea fairly quickly because... um, I think it's rather self explanatory, really.

MFGG Emblem
I've always wanted to see a Fire Emblem fangame. The FE fangames and ROM hacks I've played have taken the series fairly seriously, but I wanted to make something that poked fun at the conventions of the series - a Fire Emblem game infused with VinnyVideo-style zaniness! In particular, I'd love to see a Fire Emblem starring MFGG-based characters. Because who wouldn't enjoy a Fire Emblem fangame where you can play as a Crowbar Knight who subdues an Evil Spambot Army? I actually started a Fire Emblem engine for GM, but completing this game would require extensive help with the spriting, even if the game is just 4-6 chapters in length.

What Is This Thing, Marth Edition

back in 2013 when i first decided to come back here, i remember being blown away by dj yoshiman's what is this thing series. i'm not sure what sort of real life event i would have based this on, but seeing his game series made me want to make a similarly introspective game. my initial thought was to make the game based around marth, providing him with the ability to combo enemies with flashy moves for as long as his action points/some other limiting factor would allow. i already mentioned that i might have a hard time basing this off of anything significant in my life or anyone else's, but i'm also limited by my lack of spriting skills. if i could sprite, i could give marth a full suite of aerial combos in this game, but alas.

I also always wanted to make an MFGG fighting game, akin to Smash Bros. Years and years ago when No Body was making MFGGer sprites, a lot of people tried back then but nothing ever came of it. I always thought it was an idea that could've worked really well, but it would require a good knowledge of making online multiplayer to make it worthwhile and back in the day nobody really made online games. Not too many people these days have a personal character either so it's not really a viable thing anymore.

Hm, I always wanted to make a Mario fangame but never had any motivation do it

Super Mario Hidden World

Basically, the story itself is really simple and straightforward. Something like, Mario discovers a new world that was unknown by the rest of the world and decides to explore the whole world. While the story itself sounds really generic. But, I had plenty of ideas to make the levels/worlds unique and distinct by using themes that are unused or underused by Mario series.

Some of the themes I had thoughts about,
Casino, mixed with festival elements from major holidays around the world.
Classic: basically a theme that combines all worlds and design elements into one world or level
Canyon
Big and Small land: It has been done before, but I'd like to try and see if I can expand it along with SML2's Micro Zone
Deep Jungle
Sweet land
Savoury Land: Similar to Sweet land, except with savoury food
Halloween
Gem
Mexican
Japanese

The whole game itself, doesn't any sort of bosses and acts more like as a "level pack" game. However, I thought about making the worlds non-linear and open-like, similar to SMW. And it could be a nice and fitting idea, since that it emphasizes the exploration aspect of it. The levels themselves are designed to be like Sonic's (i.e, levels that have 3 paths/ways to the finish), to make it feel more open.

Super Mario Star Festival

This is something I've been planning for a long time, an open-world 2D Mario adventure with a bunch of collectibles and stuff. I have a lot off designs and ideas for this one, and I've attempted it multiple times, but it always ends up being too big for me alone. The first version dates back to around June 2014, but the idea has been around for much longer. I'm not sharing more of the design in case I actually end up making the game sometime. ;)

You raised this topic, and I'll give you this: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18702

Yep, it's Yoshi's Island Fusion.
Thing is, I always liked the idea behind Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, but I always thought that Yoshi's Island keeps on getting ignored on the fusion department. And because of that, I came up with this idea.

However, I highly doubt I will be able to make that game in the near future.
Mainly because I'm not skilled enough yet to transform Hello Engine 5.1 into a Yoshi's Island engine (I already tried to transform Hello Engine 5.1 into a MegaMan engine, and while the results were better than I thought, I was not satisfied yet), but also because appearantly, nobody likes to see crossovers in a Yoshi's Island game, as seen in the thread I have linked.

And that makes me sad, because a Yoshi's Island crossover game is EXACTLY the thing this world needs.

A full, single game version of Mario's Nightmare Quest. I had to split it into three parts so the resources would fit in the ROM, but damn, I'd still love to see a version (ROM hack, fan game or otherwise) that could be played as a single whole.

Also, I'd love to revive Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, but that will never happen. I'm more someone who works with Lunar Magic, Super Mario Bros X or Super Mario Maker than Game Maker and fan game programming. But god I'd love to see that game finished the way it should have been.

Super Mario Holidays: a game featuring holidays around the world that Mario explores. Halloween, Christmas, Festival of Lights, Birthdays, St. Patrick's day, New Year's Eve, Etc

I had ideas for items such as a pumpkin jack-o-lantern mask, a Santa suit, etc. I might still make the game after Mario Movie Game but I'm so focused on that I'm leaving this one in the air for now.

Highway Trouble 1 - it was my halfa**ed work based from random ideas I came with or something from my dreams

Super Mario Turd Fest series - a fun series based of my wild absurd imaginations from my alcohol involved past

Other than that most of my games feel like manual labor.

One time I was planning on doing an absolutely massive crossover RPG featuring characters and locations from Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Metroid, Megaman, Minecraft, Freedom Planet, Pikmin, and Pokémon. It was also going to feature quite a large cast of fan-characters.

Yeah, that's never getting made. Not even in my dreams.

Sorry to bump, but does anybody have iniplus.mfx? I'm trying to learn how to make trails and stuff, but Clickteam Fusion keeps saying that I NEED INIPLUS. Also google is no help. Seriously, all of it is just iniplus for older versions of clickteam's software. What is WRONG with you, Google? :nope:

I talked to Heraga, a member who uses Fusion and he told me to give you this.

In the future, if you have a technical support question, it would be better to make a topic for it rather than bumping and hijacking someone else's topic. it will be easier for people to respond that way.
