I've always had the idea to make a fangame (preferably a sonic one) with the subtitle "The Chaos Crusade". Perhaps one of you lovely folks can find some usage for it.

I have an idea for a fangame. To be honest, it was more of a sequel to Midas Machine... well, a spiritual sequel.

Basically there would be 2 modes. Mario Bros and Wario Bros. In Mario bros mode, you go through 8 worlds to get to Bowser's castle to save Peach. There would be a number of power ups in the game, some old, some new, and the main "gimmick" is that the enemies and bosses use the power ups (think tailed enemies in SM3DL but more varied).

Wario Bros mode starts works differently. It starts you off in what is world 8 and has you working your way to world 1. You go through the same worlds that Mario and Luigi go through but in reverse order and with different levels designed around Wario Land levels (treasure finding mainly).

I haven't gotten the full story down yet, but my general idea is that Mario and Luigi set off to stop Bowser like always, but what they don't know is that Wario and Waluigi were in Bowsers castle (stealing from him). They free Peach from her prison after being promised a reward for bringing her back to her castle safely. To be clear, Wario/Waluigi levels would NOT be escort missions.

As for the power ups:
Super Shroom
Fire Flower
Starman
Water Lily (Makes you Water Mario. Throw a water ball to trap enemies in bubbles that you can jump on or touch to pop (jumping on them boucnes you up along with popping them)).
Seal Suit (Advanced Water Lily. Lets you slide and improves your swimming).
Carrot
Veggie Suit (allows you to throw veggies SMB2 style)

Falcon Punch is the result of the Sun heating fists. It drives the Blue Falcon. Heating causes destruction of water into the pain, where it then hurts, creating rain. Rain creates flowing water in tears, which can then be converted into other forms through more pain.

I think this would work best as a game that has a good chunk of the community working on it (Like The Midas Machine). I actually think that The Midas Machine could be the first game in a series or sorts, with few connections, other than that they star Mario characters and are done by the community as a whole.

Theory: All Nintendo worlds are connected somehow.
Support: Mario enemies are seen in some LoZ games, some Mario-esque items appear in Kirby's Super Star (Ultra), and a set of masks that resemble te Star Fox crew appear in Majora's Mask.

Theory: the dream world of subcon

Subcon is, in its entire existance, is a dream, a story, or otherwise imagined world.
One that has come in to being reality,

a dreamer capable of creating this world would have imense power of mind, possibly with a highly active imagination,
they can hyjack the dreams of others, and drag their souls in to this world.

their are in fact, several realms of subcon, each one different in its own way,
some can be beautiful paradise's,
were others can be dark and twisted pits of hell.
and anything in between.

I suppose, by this logic, all games, take place in a realm of subcon.

I actually had an idea for a Mario anniversary game for quite a while. It's kinda in the same vein as Sonic Generations and borrows elements from Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time.

The story starts with Luigi, Peach, and a whole bunch of their friends throwing a big surprise party for Mario. While they are celebrating, Professor E. Gadd is finishing working on his brand new time machine in his lab (a repaired version of the one from PiT). Things go awry, and the time machine malfunctions, causing everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom to be sucked into Time Holes popping up everywhere. Now Mario, with E. Gadd's help, must rescue his friends and bring time back into order and figure out who's behind all of this, or something like that.

The HUB world would be Professor E. Gadd's laboratory, and the worlds will be split into eras, with each level representing a past Mario platformer. You collect Power Stars ala SM64 to move on to the next era. Depending on the level, you would either rescue a friend or fight a rival (who joins you later).

For example:

Nostalgic Era
- Super Mario Bros. (save Luigi)
- Super Mario Bros. 2 (defeat Birdo)
- Super Mario Bros. 3 (save Toad)

16-Bit Era
- Super Mario World (save Yoshi)

Portable Power Era
- Super Mario Land (save Daisy)
- Super Mario Land 2 (defeat Wario)

64 + 128 Era
- Super Mario 64 (defeat Waluigi in a tennis-themed minigame)

Millennium Era
- Super Mario Galaxy (save Rosalina)
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii (save Blue Toad and Yellow Toad)

...and so forth. There'd also be little side areas based on the non-platformer/spin-off titles, like a ghost house level based on Luigi's Mansion, or a sewer level based on the original arcade Mario Bros.

As for the level structure, think open worlds like the 3D games with a few linear sections more akin to the 2D games.

Along the way you'd run into well-known bosses that Mario's fought frequently in past games, like King Boo, the Koopalings, or Petey Piranha. Oh, and somehow Bowser would have to be there, too.

Wish I could make this myself, but ehhhh. As you can see, I haven't really thought this out that much.

Well, I had this one concept for a Wart centered game, where his main ability was that he could spit out those bubble... things, like in SMB2, and he could trap enemies in them and watch them fly up and die, not unlike Bubble Bobble ^^
