I bet everyone remembers that Super Mario Bros. 3 engine made by DjRellik".

This time I'm trying to make a near perfect replica of the SMB3 engine with Game Maker: Studio. The engine is about to be completed in less than 2 weeks.

DOWNLOAD (v1.0)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ttk7ghgjkb0ss ... e.zip?dl=1

I'll provide more info about the engine as I progress with it ;)

Nice.
BTW, I'm here for the slopes in your engine, so I can improve the slopes that Hello's Engine has.

For those who are hungry for testing this engine, I added a download link with an .exe and a .gmz on the OP.

Oh wait, I forgot that you know only use Game Maker Studio.
Is it possible to code such slopes on Game Maker 8 as well?

This looks great, but do we really need another SMB3 Game Maker engine? We've already got three major ones, and one of those is even yours. I'd much rather see an engine in another game's style.
Aside from that, this looks very polished, I just wish there was something unique to it.

This will probably blow your mind but Gatete has an engine on GM8, and it has slopes.

This engine will only feature items & enemies found on the original SMB3, this engine will not be as big like GME8.

I know about that one, but as far as I remember, his engine on Game Maker 8 didn't had SMB3-accurate slopes yet.

While I can't say that I haven't seen this engine before, it looks polished and without fault. Good job.

So I applied a shader on Mario that makes him flash when he's invincible.

Here I come with a new update on the engine.

This time I added working question blocks. The blocks are triggered on the behaviour script of Mario.

Thanks to DJ Coco for ripping the coin sparkle effect.

Can't wait to see this finished =)
Also, Djrellik's engine was this close to 100% accurate, except for the fact that mario couldn't slide.

I can't say it was completely accurate - when talking about Hello Fangaming Collection on its topic here I did some comparisons between it, Hello's engine and Super Mario Bros. 3, and I did notice some errors, though it was considerably better than Hello's engine.

I'm just curious why there aren't any engines aiming to recreate Super Mario World's movement by this point, though. Not to make anyone's attempts to perfectly capture Super Mario Bros. 3's controls in Game Maker seem insignificant, but I'm a little disappointed as to how disproportionate this dedication is compared to other games in the series.

EDIT: Being on-topic, I think you're repeating the same error as Hello did with Mario's walking animation not speeding up when Mario's on a slope, though unlike in Hello Engine it appears Mario does change speed while on slopes, at least.

It's looking good so far.

Though a bit of a nitpick I noticed the background seems to have a delayed movement effect of sorts. (it's hard to tell in the gif though so it could actually be fine)
I'd suggest moving where ever you put your background movement code into an end step or after the camera movement code.

If you knew this and I'm not helping then sorry for wasting your time.
Look forward to seeing where you go with this.

Looks good, but could you maybe edit the camera a bit? I'm pretty sure the camera in SMB3 wouldn't move vertically until Mario lands on ground. As it is right now it feels too... busy?
