I bet it's Mario and the Quest for Nothing.The dimension-flipping mechanics seem somewhat more impressive with the higher-quality graphics, I'll have to say - I imagine it's because of the greater level of contrast between the two dimensions it provides. The transition itself looks neat as well, and reminds me of Sonic CD's time traveling transition. Was the resemblance intentional?
Also, I don't mean to be too bitter, but I'd like to bring my mock-up again, because I feel it might have been a bit outshadowed by (obviously much more impressive) images sandwiching it:
I'm not sure how much more work I'll be putting into the non-musical aspects of this project without a programmer and a spriter to help me, but I'm currently entertaining a hypothetical project.

Ignore the clouds and bush - they're obvious placeholders. Just about everything else might be subject to revision, too. I think, though, it should get the idea of what I'm up to across...
