Is "off" just a placeholder or do they actually have some function when they're on?

You can move them when they're on, but you can't when they're off.

Looks neat. Don't make the screen that big compared to the character though, unless it's vital that you can see that much of the level at once.

It is vital. The engine I made doesn't work too well with views.
Anyways, more screenshots:

I know the last post on here was way back in June, but I want to show some new stuff.
Spoiler:

Also there's a level editor.
I'm probably going to show the new demo at NCFC.

^ looks awesome! Although the Piranha Plants look too unified and unindividualized, also some blocks look kinda clashy.

^World 6

I don't think I posted it in this topic before, here's the game's website/NCFC booth

Also, can I have some feedback on the level editor?

I'm going to be honest: when I played the game, I found that the challenges were too little puzzle and too much awkward action sequence. Like having to drag up a brick while the Bob-Omb walks on it high enough before it breaks. I think it would be much better if it was based more on puzzle solving. Also, at least the first boss was completely pointless. There's no real challenge, so it's just boring. I don't know if later bosses get better because I didn't go that far. Too many levels that seem to do the same thing; I just got tired of the frustrating action sequences and lack of thought needed.

The biggest problem with the action-like sequences is you need to be precise (since the blocks are so small), but precision just isn't a small task with the mouse.

Try the later worlds, they're better.

That's no good. I played something like 10-15 levels (I didn't count). If the later worlds are better, you should take out a good chunk of the earlier levels so it doesn't take so long for the game to actually be fun.

Think of it this way: if Super Mario Bros was exactly as it is, but with the "Super Mario Forever" hack coming before World 1, would you forgive Nintendo for making that decision? Granted, it's an imperfect analogy, but my point is if the beginning of the game is bad, even if the end is fun, I'm not going to wade through the bad parts just to get there.

I have to say (and sorry for derailing the thread) the water world looks ******* beautiful <3. The only complaint I have from that is that the blue pipes look a little to dark colored. If they were like that in the game, then ignore that, since it just might be me.

Also, you might want to "tint" the other non-tinted stuff blue to give it a more underwater feel.

How is that derailing the thread? Thanks!
And yeah, to make the blue pipes, I just colorized the normal pipes in GM, so it's not the actual colours from NSMB.

That's a good idea. I think I'll do that.

Anyways, I hid Totaka's song somewhere in the NCFC demo. There might be a prize for the first person to find it and post how to hear it in this thread.
