Since there are problems with requesting on the site, I have a suggestion for the site and forum:

Add rules about requests/requesting.

Maybe if there are new users who want to request stuff, they should go see the rules before posting any.

how about: no requests unless the creator specifically asked for them

That would work by you decreasing the amount of requests... You're annoying some people. Not very nice. :x

Then, instead, why not simply use?:

NO Requests Allowed

Is it really necessary?
Just avoid asking like if they are already demanded to do something.

You know what the problem is with the MFGG Forum?: It has NO Requests Sub-Forum.

All of this anger and irritation could have been avoided if someone could have just added a Requests Topic or a Sub-Forum.

But no.

Instead, we have to post request comments on the sprite sheet pages instead.

Do you know how hard it is to find someone to take requests?

Hmm... You better ask DJ Coco about this. I'm not sure, but under some conditions, requests may be acceptable in the forum.

AFAIK You're the only one angry and irritated about the lack of a "Requests Forum".

DJ is unable to post atm:

DJ Coco wrote:
@SAB: I rather people don't specifically send forum suggestions to me personally. I'm not running the site, I just happen to be the most active admin. All changes to the site still need to be revised by the other staff members before a final decision can be made.

So yeah, anyway, I think this subject could've also been brought up with in the "Site Talkback and Suggestions" topic, but I guess it's okay if it has its own topic.

My stance on the subject: There shouldn't be a requests forum. I think people would just abuse it for "I have this idea X and you make everything for me" purposes. Unless someone specifically offers requests, I don't think it's a good idea to request things. If you need help with something you can always make a topic about it, e.g. you make a sprite and want people to give criticism or you ask for some code-related troubleshooting advice, but I'm not a fan of "do X for me" mentality.

Im going to play devil's advocate here, that while I do not fully support the OP on this issue nor even like his history, I cant help but disagree with you on that, DJ Coco. This "do X for me" thing isn't really a bad thing. Yes, you have a valid point regarding it's abuse, but I am going to say that the problem is on both sides here with those who have a narcissistic expectations of others bending to their will while the other side isn't selfless enough to help the needy get started with his own works. Also not everyone who requests things are those who can't do things for themselves or are automatically unreasonable people by virtue of their requests. I would think that in order to mitigate those who would make requests for exploitative purposes, certain rules have to be made regarding what kinds of things that can be requested and fulfilled. I would think by making regulations on the kinds of things that can be requested, both sides may be satisfied.

ATTENTION! I am in need of coders to help fix Mario's physics for Mysterious Islandz. The game as it stands, is quite glitchy. If you are good at GM8 and is capable of reading FDE Exi's code, PM me!

This is why the Help Forum was good back in the day. It was an all-encompassing area for help with games, ideas, sprite ripping and so on.

I personally have no issues with someone requesting something such as a sprite rip. There's no harm in it, but you can't always count on someone doing it for you and it certainly shouldn't be spammed or overly requested.

Help forum is being considered, for the record.

It's at the lowest level of consideration at the moment, and if it happens, it'll probably be with MFGG3, but it is on the table.

It kind of clashes with the intention of Developer Discussion so if it was considered then it'd need to probably take the place of Developer Discussion, while still encouraging the same kind of topics and discussions in that forum.

In that case, then, perhaps Developer Discussion could support that sort of thread, instead of having its own dedicated subforum.

I don't think a subforum or thread would really be the answer. A subforum just adds unnecessary forum clutter, and a single dedicated thread is easy to overlook.
