Hello everyone, Rystar and Camtendo here! A major congratulations to Miles for achieving second place in the last competition, and I'd also like to thank everyone else for participating! Regardless of some of the problems that we ran into, it was a fun competition, and I think the turnout was worth it overall ^^

Before we continue, here are the rules, copied directly from the ol' timer page:
Rules wrote:
1. You have a full week with 2 weekends (9 days).
2. Your entry must be posted in the topic on MFGG by the deadline.
3. Teams are allowed only if it is a team of two people, comprising of a spriter and a programmer.
In that case, both receive the badge. Otherwise, you are disqualified.
4. No previously made engines, whether made by yourself or someone else, but you can use some lines of old code, based on "fair use".
(For example, you may re-use a dialog box script from another game, but you can't build your game using Hello Engine)
5. Feel free to document your work, using a camera, live broadcast, audio recording, screen recording, twitter-like log etc.
6. Feel free to sleep, eat, drink as much as you need. You do not need to program the full 168 hours!
7. Games are restricted to Nintendo (related) franchises only and original games.

Okay, so without further ado, here's the theme for this competition... with a twist...

DOUBLE THEME, DOUBLE TEAM

That's right! This time around, you have two themes to pick from. You have a choice of using one theme, or using both if you're feeling a bit edgy, heh! So, what are the themes, you ask? Well, in commemoration of the "Yarn Yoshi" announcement, we have the following two:

THEME #1: Yoshi!

Image

Your objective (if you accept it) is to make a minigame surrounding around the lovable dinosaur of the Mario world, Yoshi! If you pick this theme, your minigame must heavily focus on Yoshi in some form, be it having to play as him or... I dunno, shooting at him or something, if you feel particularly evil. However, for people uninterested in making a Yoshi minigame, we have an alternative...

THEME #2: Touch Fuzzy, Get Trippy

Image

Your alternative objective (if you didn't accept the former one) is to make a minigame surrounding around the, well, drug of the Mario world, the fuzzy! If you pick this theme over the other, your minigame must feature the fuzzies as prominent enemies, playable characters or, if you want to make it much more interesting, someone can be tripping in your minigame as well!
-----

Remember, you can also use both themes at once if you feel like a true daredevil! You have approximately a week from now, so the deadline for the competition is February 3rd, 2013 at 3:00 PM EST. Good luck everyone, and make sure you have fun! ;)

I really like the 2nd theme. I always ask this but rule 4 is a bit ambiguous to me since i don't use game maker or construct. These things give you stuff already to work with AFAIK (animation, collision detection, level/room system). So im guessing the line for allowed premade engines are those that don't do anything game specific? Only generic engines are allowed ,like the ones mentioned previously?

Just a quick question: Do the competition start immediately now? Because I don't see a timer. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I haven't done a mini game competition since comp #19.

May I ask why those teams need to have a spriter and a programmer? Why not a programmer and a level designer or two programmers?

Yes, the competition has officially started. Better act fast, huh? XD

The latter would give you an unfair advantage in the comp. As for the former... hmm, you may want to check up with an admin on that.

If you also want to include those in your minigame, that's up to you. However, you can't use them to replace the YI fuzzies, no.

I don't mean to spam, but i think my post was overlooked. I need to know if what i'm doing is allowed or not before i actually do anything.

But of course, mate, hehe^^ Target strikers is already made unfortunatly, and kinda centered around Yoshi since you control him, but we won't use it again of course.

Yoshi or fuzzy huh? I'll personally go for the first theme: ti sounds more vast to me^^

I've got a great idea that can work with both themes. If there are there any spriters out there who want to team up, shoot me a PM.

The key part of that team rule is that no more than one programmers can be in a team. The only reason why we even allow for teams is so a programmer who enters isn't stuck with ripped graphics.
The spriter role can ofc also be a musician or level designer (or all three of those).

Sounds interesting, but I'm not a big fan of Yoshi. I might pass this time unless someone asked me to team up.

@supernova: Wanna team up? We're both programmers, but for this competition I can be a spriter.
