Post subject: Minigame Competition #28! FINAL VOTING
Posted: Fri Jan 04, 2013 5:12 pm
An admin instructed me to make the topic for the minigame comp since there hasn't been one in quite a while. Said admin also told me that there is no need for a timer this time, so the comp will begin now!
Because this is happening on such short notice, I will schedule the end for the competition to be Sunday, January 13th which gives you 9 days.
Rules (posted from the timer page)
1. Your entry must be posted in the topic on MFGG by the deadline. 2. Teams are allowed only if it is a team of two people, comprising of a spriter and a programmer. In that case, both receive the badge. Otherwise, you are disqualified. 3. No previously made engines, whether made by yourself or someone else, but you can use some lines of old code, based on "fair use". (For example, you may re-use a dialog box script from another game, but you can't build your game using Hello Engine) 4. Feel free to document your work, using a camera, live broadcast, audio recording, screen recording, twitter-like log etc. 5. Feel free to sleep, eat, drink as much as you need. You do not need to program the full time! 6. Games are restricted to Nintendo (related) franchises only and original games.
Now for the theme: (click the spoiler button)
Spoiler:
This comp's theme is: BLOCKS!
Your objective is to create a game that's main focus is blocks. I know this seems simple, but there are dozens of types of blocks you can use. There's your typical Brick Blocks, Empty Blocks, ? Blocks, Coin Blocks, POW Blocks, and much, much more! They don't have to be Mario item blocks though, your game could be a character transformed into a block themselves and base the gameplay around moving your block-characterized player! The Item Boxes from Mario Kart works too. You can go to http://www.mariowiki.com/Block for more examples of Blocks. Don't limit yourself to just these, though, there's tons of things to do regarding blocks.
So that's your theme. Good luck!

Goodbye.
come up with some good examples of games involving bricks/blocks. (hidden in the spoiler to prevent page load ram spikes)
Spoiler:
Breakout: atari2600 Wrecking crew: NES Rampage!: arcade, NES, Master system, Ps1, N64, several other consoles. (bit of a streatch i know, but buildings are made from brick, and contains items)
these basically follow a theme of destruction, so. theirs those.

Bomberman's not Nintendo. You have to stick with original or Nintendo franchises. But you could also make a Mario themed Bomberman, I guess.
