COUNTDOWN <-- That is a link, click it!

Time's up!

Howdy, folks! Congratulations to Azuriyuu with his second place, and a big thanks to kremling and Mason for participating in the previous competition as well. Let's try not to go into an argument about who won and who's game was best this time, m'kay?

This competition will be another 7-day long one.

The normal minigame competition rules apply, as usual. I've been so nice to list them again for you guys:

1. You have one week. 7 days. 168 hours.
2. Your entry must be posted in the topic on MFGG by the deadline.
3. Teams are allowed only if it is a team of two people, comprising of a spriter and a programmer.
In that case, both receive the badge. Otherwise, you are disqualified.
4. No previously made engines, whether made by yourself or someone else, but you can use some lines of old code, based on "fair use".
(For example, you may re-use a dialog box script from another game, but you can't build your game using Hello Engine)
5. Feel free to document your work, using a camera, live broadcast, audio recording, screen recording, twitter-like log etc.
6. Feel free to sleep, eat, drink as much as you need. You do not need to program the full 168 hours!
7. Games are restricted to Nintendo (related) franchises only and original games.

Also, but I think this is clear now, the tie-breaking rule also applies.

EDIT: Download all at once pack, thanks to Nite Shadow! :D

Nite Shadow wrote:

since we only have 3 entries, we go straight to final voting, No top 5 this time around.

SuperDimentioBros: Super Tanooki Goomba
Kremling: Bootphany
Nite Shadow: The Goombas Battleship

Final voting starts now!

The countdown is now in place, so I hope that solves your date problem. Also, I think I misspelled it, but by 'ripping of other people's games' I was referring to the negative stuff from the last competition between ah2190 and moonrat :P

That's a good idea.

And, hopefully I'll be able to enter this one, too. Besides, I've learned from the last one what not to do.

...I also think I should adopt a review policy where if I don't have anything nice and/or useful to say, then I won't say anything.

You should adopt this as your general policy.

Even though I really laughed (o 3o), I do think you're right.

It wouldn't hurt to extend the final voting, that's for sure. I think I'm going to agree with you here, but the rules and such are all up to Guinea.

Oh, haha, thanks! I thought you meant stealing other people's work. :P

I personally think 1.5 days for final voting is enough.

I actually feel that way about the theme being revealed.

Um... moonrat? The theme is decided by the previous contest winner, and they then hide it behind the countdown timer, only to be relieved when it hits 0:00:00.

And, I believe you still owe me an apology for your actions during the last contest.

I was just suggesting because I think that theme is a good idea, and unique.

Dazzle any others that apply: There's a typo in the rules where it says "audio ecording" rather than "audio recording" and it's been there unmodified since forever. Just saying.

I'm fine with the minigame timers. I like them.

I agree with all of this. I say we should extend time for final voting - one day is kind of ridiculous.

Well, save your suggestions for when you get the chance to choose the theme.

So (since I still only have access to a mac) I was wondering - If I make a game with the mac version of gamemaker, will all of you PC users be able to play it? I'd like to actually enter a competition again at some point...

I think the two versions are compatible.

Anyway, I think we should extend both voting phases. True, two days would normally be enough for the Top 5 Voting, but the fact that the voters have to choose five, rather than one, to put through will sometime require a lot of thought, especially when there's a lot of entries. So we either give an extra day to both voting sections, to give a grand total of 5 days for voting... or, we could have the Top 5 as per normal, but then everyone gets a day to have a closer look at each of the Top 5, as well as the five minigame creators who've made it getting a chance to explain in detail why their game should get voted as the winner. During this single day, each of the creators in the Top 5 are allowed to also make a private vote through PM to Guiena or, if Guiena is one of the top 5, another member of staff who will keep the votes secret. And then, after 24 hours has passed since the Top 5 voting finished, everyone else is able to cast their vote on which game they think is the best. If a creator hasn't yet PMed his vote to Guiena or whomever is designated as the 'creator vote keeper', they are allowed to do so, as long as the vote is sent before the final voting ends. And once final voting ends, Guiena or the 'creator vote keeper' announces whom each of the creators have voted for, and adds them to the tally. If there's a tie for a certain place, then whichever game received the most creator (or standard - but it must be announced before Final Voting begins as to which one it will be) votes takes it. If we still have a tie, then either someone can change their vote to break the tie (but by doing so they won't reduce the game that they voted for, and their vote is counted as a half vote - enough to break the tie, but also preventing any more ties) or someone who hasn't voted can make a vote. (Again, this vote is counted as a half vote)

Actually, it's better to break ties by eliminate an entry.

It just seems... really complicated. I think if anything has to change, we should do 2 and 2.
And the half vote thing sort of makes sense, but it's not totally necessary.
See, if you're breaking a tie for second place, you're sort of ignoring all of the other entries for the time being (including 1st place, because they would have already won, since a tiebreak is needed only after voting is over) So another vote to break the tie for second wouldn't affect them anyways.

Also supernova, what do you mean by 'eliminate'? We can't kick people out simply to break ties...
